Major bugs in SDMB re-skin fixed. What do you think?

Disregard this. All I have to do is raise the font, and the Poster column disappears completely.

This theme is adaptive (or is supposed to be.) So it’s serving different pages depending on the device you view it from. That is probably why so many issues being reported by some posters aren’t always seen by all other posters. If you’re viewing it from a desktop you are seeing what it considers to be the desktop version.

If we could have a choice of themes with the two we currently have those choices wouldn’t be ‘Mobile’ or ‘Desktop’ but “Classic SDMB” and “New SDMB” or something like that.

Enabling the option to allow posters to choose a theme and making both the old and new themes available is the simplest and most effective thing TPTB could do while they continue to grapple with this not nearly ready for prime time new theme.

Regardless of whether or not this is concerned to be the desktop version, “mobile site” is a very apt description.

My second thought (after verifying that I hadn’t zoomed in) was that server glitched and served me the mobile version by mistake–which isn’t the case. There is no reason for certain elements (such as the sizing and spacing) to exist on a desktop site.

Yeah, the description isn’t important. I was just using those as examples to illustrate the point that we’re not having a mobile version forced on us despite using desktops, which is what it sounded like you were saying. We’re just having a crappy version forced on us whatever the device. They can call them old and new, classic and mobile, or whatever. As long as we can go back to the old one while they rethink the implementation of the new one.

No dates on posts - no way to tell if a thread is a zombie.

I mean, I was never much good at noticing that anyway, but now I have an excuse.

But that’s my point: this is a mobile version.

The only reason for the sizing and spacing is that it’s optimized to be viewed on a tablet or phone.

Just because there may be a “more” mobile version being served to mobile users doesn’t change the fact that I’m on my laptop looking at a site that was clearly designed for mobile users.

? There are dates on posts on my screen. (Desktop, Windows 10, Firefox)

IMHO the new format is a lot better on mobile devices and marginally worse on a computer. OTOH, I rarely use it on mobile devices, so for me it’s probably a wash.

One thing I particularly dislike is the italicizing of quotes. Many people use selective italicizing to emphasize certain parts of their posts and thus make their meaning clearer, and this is lost when being quoted.

Im on a Chromebook used as a desktop…I would prefer the old look if I had a choice, but if the blue bars were gone, I could live with that.

I not much of a coder, (less than zerro) even at the Tampermonkey level, hopefully there will be a simple dashboard type fix. Still love the SD though.

I’m re-reading some of my old posts on this new format and I think the new format has improved them quite a bit.

Previously my posts were rambling sequences of thoughts, illogical, devoid of any central concept, filled with grammar, spelling and formatting problems and frequently made no sense at all.

With the new format they are coherent, insightful, clever, funny, succinct and generally just solid posts.

Interestingly, it’s doing the exact opposite to my old posts.

In fact, if anyone sees anything at all that they don’t like in any of my old posts, I can assure you that it’s completely the fault of the new format.

What are the settings like in your profile?

I set mine to “80% good posts” (didn’t want to overdo it)

Now you tell me.

I didn’t change that setting at all. The default must be very low … :frowning:

Is this where we post bugs/issues? Because, and I apologize if this has been covers, but there used to be a link in quotes that would let you jump to the quoted post - no more, at least for me :frowning:

It’s still there but it’s a faint gray - could be you’re missing it.

There are no dates for subscribed threads in my control panel on my Android phone, but everything else is dated including my desktop, using Firefox.

Is this what you’re referring to?

There are a few changes I noticed but none of them are any hindrance to me, but my eyes are getting old so I surf on my big monitors.

I’m already used to the new format. The only thing I find irritating is the banners every few threads. Kinda distracting, in that it makes me think I’ve reached the end of a thread. But I’m sure that given a few weeks I’ll have learned to ignore that irritant.

AH, you’re right! God Damn that’s hard to see.

Which brings me to my 7th complaint: Some of the icons (especially the ‘Subscribed’ indicater) have become super-faint and hard-to-see.

I confess: I can see the faint icons when I squint, and my total lost time due to this problem may be only ten seconds per day, or even less.
But it is annoying and … Why? Was someone begging for fainter hard-to-see icons?
