Major earthquake (ca. 7.6) south of the Cayman Islands, also Tsunami warnings (2/8/2025)

There’s some property damage in the Cayman Islands, and a tsunami alert was issued. I don’t know yet if it was warranted; it just happened within the past hour.

And here’s a link to a live seismograph tracing, from a basement in Lincoln, Nebraska.

See also this thread about the tsunamis.

I’ve reported both for possible combination.

See also U.S. Tsunami Warning Centers. Now (2000 ET on 2/8) they have warnings up for Puerto Rico, the US Virgin islands, Caymans, and Cuba.

None are huge, but all might mess up low lying areas on the wrong side of their island.

This other thread is about the earthquake

Combined

Looks like the tsunami warnings have been cancelled, thankfully.

I was just in Roadtown, which was on the edge of one of the warnings, last week!
