It is a fact that only humans make love face to face. Despite all the theories behind chimps/gorillas, they do not make love face to face …of course the positions of their genitals do not allow this.
The question is: Are humans the only creation who are graced with the art and luxury of kissing ?
That isn’t so. Orangutans and bonobos (a member of the chimpanzee family, often called pygmy chimps) have been frequently observed to copulate face-to-face, as well as in a number ofother positions. Gorrillas and other primates also occasionally do, as well. Additionally, many, if not most, aquatic mammals (specifically, the cetaceans), also adopt a facing postion - mostly out of necessity, due to the positioning of the genitals.
Oh, and BTW, it isn’t a theory. It’s an observed fact, replete with photographic evidence. I’ll see if I can find some examples, but I’m not keen on seeing the Google results for “primate sex”!
Type “missionary+sex+primates” into Google, click on the second lin, and scroll down to the fifth and sixth pictures on that website for photographic evidence of face to face copulation. I’d link directly but I don’t want to post pictures that aren’t safe for work.
A couple years ago I saw a documentary on bonobo apes, either on PBS or the Discovery, or something. They showed snippets of them going at it in a variety of inventive positions. And yes, they can and do kiss while mating, from time to time.
Observing bonobos has essentially chucked a lot of what we thought was unique about human sexuality right out the window, and revealed a few limitations of our own besides. Whoever coined the term “make love, not war” could have gotten their inspiration from the bonobo. Often, instead of getting in a fight, they do things like give each other oral sex! Not only that, they appear to be about as open to such displays of overt a placative sexuality in both homo- and hetero- couplings. They masturbate. They give prolonged kisses with lots of tongue. They engage in group sex. Females regularly initiate sex, even when not in estrus. In fact, it’s rare for a bonobo to go even one day without some sort of sexual gratification; it’s almost too integral a part of their social behavior to avoid! It may be the only sex-related thing humans do better than bonobos is celibacy.
You want a good time on a Saturday night, you go find yourself a video of whales mating. It’s a truly bizarre sight. The penis of a right whale (a Mr. Right whale, that is) is 14 feet long and can move. I saw a video of one hunting around a female whale, poking at it here and there, looking for the right spot.
Wel, I don’t go around looking for hot monkey sex, but quite a few years ago on a visit to the Bronx Zoo, I spotted two gorillas copulating face to face.
Thank you all …Aesiron,s’head,J21,and RC …for the illuminating info.
I did see the whale’s amorous inclinations; at times it appeared as if he was ready to give her a cane-whipping !!!
Mother, father and young son are visiting the circus. The elephants walk out into the circus ring and the little boy says to his mother, “What’s that?”
“That’s the elephant’s tail,” she replies.
“No, under the tail,” says the youngster.
The mother is clearly embarrassed and says, “Oh, nothing.”
The boy turns to his father and repeats the same question.
His father looks and says, “That’s the elephant’s penis, son.”
“So, why did mum say it was nothing?” asks the boy.
The father draws himself up to his full height and says, “Son, I’ve spoiled that woman.”
No- Its not a Fact. Benobo Chimpanzees, and Gorillas do make love face to face,
and yes, the position of their Hip and Thigh Anatomy does allow them to do this: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,330619,00.html
