Making weight the hard way. A Thanks-TMI comedy!

Okay, so for almost 2 years now I’ve been on a weight loss plan. I started it after seeing one too many pictures of myself and I did it rationally. I set goals; 40 lbs. by my 41st birthday (July 1/ 2005), which I made, then another 40 lbs. by the end of 2005 (which I missed but only by 5 lbs. so I was okay with that) and finally another 40 lbs. by the end of 2006. I gave myself a full year for the last third because I knew from past experience that it gets harder to lose weight as one goes along and I didn’t want to be too unrealistic in my reach.

Things went well and I kept losing the weight. I eat less and exercise regularly and am in much better health than I’ve been for years. No body builder me, but neither am I a total schlub.

I ultimately decided to stop at 110 lbs because that puts me at a final weight of 180 and I think that’s fine.

So, last week, before Thanksgiving I weighed in at 186. I knew I’d put a couple of pounds on over the holiday, but that’s okay because I’m trying not to be too obsessive and I would just get back on track afterwards. Little did I know.

We went to Iowa to spend T-day with my family and had a nice time. We had the full meal with many MANY great desserts and I figured I’d be working my ass off this week. What I didn’t count on was puking my ass off first.

At about 3 A.M. I awoke to the acrid taste of reflux. I haven’t had it in months now, but wasn’t really surprised, considering how piggy I’d been, so I went to the bathroom to deal with it. Unfortunately, that was just the beginning. At around 4 A.M., right after my mother left to join my sister at Wal-Mart I woke up again and decided to stay up so I wouldn’t wake the SO. A couple of hours later my dad woke up and I went back to bed for awhile. Finally at about 10 A.M. I woke with a full blown stomach bug. Let the games begin!

From then until Friday night I had the full run of symptoms, puking, diarrhea, chills, fever, aches, weakness. We had to come back to Chicago on Friday, so the SO drove while I tried to sleep, not very successfully. When we got home I took a double dose of Nyquil and slept until Saturday afternoon. We were then scheduled to go to her brother’s place for our second dinner, at which time I ate about a tablespoon of everything and even that was enough to set me off again. Even today, I still don’t completely have my appetite back, though it’s getting better.

Unfortunately I also gave this bug to my folks, or possibly we all got it from the same source. They called last night to thank me for sharing it. :frowning:

As a result of all this I ended the weekend about 5 lbs. lighter than I started, so I’m essentially at target weight now!

So how was your holiday?

I feel your pain. Really, I do. Talk about making weight the hard way.

It’s funny you should post this. I too recently lost some weight the hard way, at at least due to a cause I hadn’t anticipated.

I recently met and started dating a guy (I’m male) who, if I admitted to having a type, was it – younger, slightly pudgy (don’t ask), a certain ethnic type, cute but not overly handsome. Generally great personality, a funny and spontaneous conversationalist. Oh, and great in bed.

However, he has a couple of huge faults. His spontaneous sides causes him to blow off commitments (dates, etc.) and he thrives on emotional drama (how much can he make me chase him), which are both very stressful.

Finally, realizing this would not end well, I broke it off with him just last night.

I did thank him though. See, when I’m stressed out, I don’t eat.

And since I’ve know him, I’ve lost over 5 lbs.

Oh well. C’est la vie.

I offer my congratulations!

I’m down 77 pounds from where I started - but I also gained, and then lost, 50 pounds while I was pregnant. Also the hard way - but not nearly as hard as your final few days have been!

Hey, Ginger, delivery beats a flu in any cardgame. Nicely done, but I have to say, a 50 pound baby? Good lord woman, tell me you didn’t breast feed?

Oh jeez. Mea culpa. I gained 50 while pregnant and then lost 50 after delivery. SHEESH YOU PEOPLE.
