Male Centrism at the Dope

This is saying “Why not give a free pass in a special forum to exactly the type of posts that are being objected to in this thread?”

May as well call it Juvenalia.

Of course, I decide to google that and get;

In classical antiquity, the Juvenalia, or Ludi Juvenales (Gr Ἱουβενάλια ὥσπερ τινὰ νεανισκεύματα), were scenic games instituted by Nero in 59 AD, at the age of 21, in commemoration of his shaving his beard for the first time, thus indicating that he had passed from youth into manhood. These games were not celebrated in the circus, but in a private theatre erected in a pleasure-ground (nemus), and consisted of every kind of theatrical performance, Greek and Roman plays, mimetic pieces, and the like.

I stay out of this thread for one day to see if the pollution level goes down. It didn’t. The **Muppets of Misogyny **just rearmed.

ETA, good morning meth head.

Yes, it is. Very insightful of you.

If the objection is that people don’t want to read such things, especially by surprise, then this would address the issue. If the objection is that people don’t want such things to exist, it wouldn’t.

It would be like having a separate forum on the SDMB where people could scream mindless insults at each other. For those who don’t want to see insults, they could stay out of that forum. For those who don’t want any insults at all, staying out of the forum would serve no purpose - they are offended by the knowledge that it existed.

Shodan

The objection being made is that they have to see them. Having an “R-rated” forum solves that. You don’t have to see them any more. AND, people’s behavior will change. NO more: “Boobies are cool” being posted in the other forums people don’t want to see it. The forum itself would drive change.

It’s like allowing baby seal clubbing, only make them do it behind that wall over there. Surely people against baby seal clubbing will feel much better with that option.

Men are already a vast majority here-Is adding a “Men’s Club” Forum where women are even more unwelcome even necessary, let alone a good idea?

Ima pick on your methodology here.

If someone tells me they have a problem, consider these two ways of solving it:

  1. I restate their problem and ask them if I restated it correctly.
1a) If they tell me I didn’t, ask for clarification, then go back to step 1.
  2. I ask them if they have a proposed solution.
2a) If they do, and if it works for me, we’re done.
2b) If they don’t, or if their proposed solution doesn’t work for me, go to step 3.
  3. I propose a solution, explain why I think it’s good, and ask them if it works for them.
3a) If they say it works, we’re done.
3b) If they say it doesn’t work, I ask why, and then return to step 2 or step 3.

Alternatively,

  1. I restate their problem.
  2. I tell them my solution and explain that it solves their problem.
  3. I’m done, because as far as I’m concerned the problem is solved.

Which of these methods is better? Which are you practicing?

You think dudes talking about which movie star they’d rather do is the equivalent to beating baby seals?

Interesting.

Besides a forum where men can openly degrade and objectify women, are there any other special forums you think might be a good idea when it comes to putting down other groups without consequence?

What I think is irrelevant. It’s about** listening to what the offended parties think **here. Something you are not doing.

Seals are assholes.

If that’s the case, the only viable solution is to make this a G-rated board. And we should ban all discussions of the attractiveness of other human beings, the human anatomy, or, oh, IDK, a whole list of things that might offend one’s sensibilities.

And my mind is not closed to suggestions. I’m all ears. In fact, I’m in favor for a lot of the changes being proposed.

Huh? I ask you which process is better, and your response is to jump right into the second process of telling a solution without asking if it solves the problem for people?

Do you understand that right now I’m addressing your methodology, not even getting to addressing your proposed solution? Did you even read what you quoted?

I’m not in favor of men being able to openly degrade women ever. Where are you getting that from?

Like The Pit?

From you. Once again:

How is that working out so far? Are men confining their baser instincts when it comes to women to this forum?

I don’t agree with your assessment of my methodology. I am listening. I am all for change especially if it will increase women’s membership and participation.

So let me be perfectly clear: If this board come to a consensus on how best to resolve these issues, then I’m all for it. I’m not just for it, I WELCOME it. And will happily comply with whatever board rule changes.

I mean that sincerely.

Is your assertion that men talking about “Who’s hotter” degrading towards women?
