Male Strippers-What's The Work Like?

I have noted the increase in ads for these"male review" acts in my local papers. What I would like to know:
-is there good moneyin being a male stripper?
-does the IRS keep a close watch on these events (to nail non-filers)?
-what sort of attire is mandated?
-how many hours per week do you work?
-and, does stripping lead to lots of extra-business affairs?
-do you retain your self-respect?
Sounds like a great way to make a few bucks and meet women…of course, there might be a little downside to this…is it possible to get jaded by doing this (loseinterest in sex)?
Finally-is contact between you and the audience forbidden?

I was watching a show on the life of a stripper (or something like that) and when asked how much she makes in tips, all she would say is “alot” but since it’s so easy to not claim that money (maybe they should issue a receipt for each dollar received) the IRS keeps an eye on them and she wasn’t going to give out (even a ballpark) figure.

Don’t forget, there are men out there who enjoy hiring male strippers as well.

As far as contact, that is usually up to the patron so long as the stripper is “ok” with what’s going on. If you’re ok with contact, then it might be allowed (although it may be illegal depending on your location). If you’re not ok with contact, just be up front and used that tired line…“I’m a DANCER.”

I knew a girl who was a stripper, and she was pretty jaded. She also had to deal with stalkers. Certain men would become infatuated with her and follow her around, even to pick up her daughter from school.

Look at the way women often behave around famous or desirous men, they tend to mob. There are certainly enough cases of strippers being stalked, by men and women, but YMMV. I just say be careful, and be very choosey in where you work.

That’s the story they told the Senate sub-committee that was investigating their expense accounts.

Are these professional strippers, like club stripping or just “strippers for hire” like a part time gig… such as maybe do a stagette once a week or so?

The “rules” can very greatly between the two with the latter being almost certainly under the table and more will probably “go” than the former.

I worked with a guy who was a stripper/dancer before he turned to teaching. He said that, if you want to work and make tips, the physical demands are worse than being an athlete (he had played college football). Specifically, he was referring to maintaining a very low body fat level and a medium level of muscularity (body-builder physiques turn more customers off than on). As a result, your intake of beer, fried food and all the other good things in life must of necessity be very low and your excercise/practise level very hign. IOW, it isn’t the easy low-work/high sex lifestyle that one might think. He also said that it gets old having screaming mobs of drunk women paw you as at a typical bachelorette party. To address one of your original questions, according to him the opportunities for sex are there, burt typically not with people you would want to lie down with.

Male strippers - what’s the work like?

Hard.

I’ve been to a number of strip shows (and am going to one tonight as a matter of fact) and am buddies with a number of the strippers so I will attempt to answer these from a non-stripper-but-knows-several perspective.

Yes. Clubs pay a fee and tips are usually pretty good. Depends on the crowd and the venue of course.

The strippers I know have day jobs and file taxes appropriately on that income. None of them list their occupation as “stripper” and none of them get tax forms from the clubs where they work. I haven’t specifically asked any of them if they declare the income but I doubt they do, nor have I asked if they’ve ever been audited. My WAG is that the IRS goes after bigger targets.

Depends on the venue. In Madison where I am they have to keep their genitals covered if the performance is public. If it’s a private performance they can strip completely.

Varies depending on bookings.

The guys I know tend to go home alone after the shows but they do hook up sometimes.

Yes they do.

You can get jaded doing anything I suppose. None of the guys I know indicate that they’re anything other than happy to be doing what they’re doing.

Depends what you mean by “contact” and depends on the venue. The shows I go to are not the Chippendale-style revues or the “stripper twirls around a pole on a stage” kind of thing. I go to gay bars for the shows and there is definitely physical contact between the dancers and the audience. Tips are better if the patron gets to cop a little feel. How much of a feel and where on the dancer’s body the customer is allowed to touch varies depending on the tip and the dancer. The guys I know haven’t reported a lot of problems with stalkers or over-eager customers crossing the line but I know it happens and I’ve seen some of them physically remove a wandering hand from a body part, but subtly enough that the customer either doesn’t pick up on it or picks up on it but gets the hint and behaves. I’ve never seen anyone get ejected from a show for this kind of behaviour.

Oh, and a number of the dancers I know hire out for private parties at up to $200 per party. I know one who “escorts” and others who do lap dances and private one-on-one shows as well.
