My neighborhood, just north of Downtown Houston, gets really intense with Christmas decorations. MY neighbors show a large range of expression–from meticulous to sloppy, traditional to “unusual.”
One year, some neighbors had Santa’s sleigh pulled by alligators. (Yes, they were from Louisiana; they left their decorations up until 12th Night–when they hung out the Mardi Gras flag.) I’ve seen palm trees lit up & surrounded by “gifts.” Not to mention the lighted lawn flamingos. We also have Santas, snowmen & nativity scenes.
Humans create symbols. We change & the symbols change.

Why is it disgusting? God forbid he answer truthfully about this monumental issue and explain his thoughts without someone jumping down his throat. I don’t personally give a good goddamn about Santa and I think the comments in that link were disgusting but what dracoi expressed is not even close to that.
God forbid LWitBR answer truthfully their opinion about dracoi’s statement without you jumping down his throat.

Ok, I woke up with a cold this morning and while scan-reading my mind read this as “flaming lawn flamingos” and for that split second, I thought “that would be really cool”.

Well okay, but I see no reason to be so . . . militant about it. Isn’t that one of the big reasons this world is in a big old mess; everyone yelling past one another and calling each other names. Granted, he probably could have started out *not *saying he agrees with the racists :smack: But his explanation wasn’t hate filled, or at least I didn’t see it that way.
It was, at best, mild racism. Not a huge deal; also not a huge deal to call mild racism disgusting.
