I’ll echo Eve’s sentiments here. I am a non smoker, and I dont care if you smoke. Actually, most of my friends who are still around school smoke, and I often dont care if they smoke around me, in their cars or in their homes. It’s not my place to tell them to put it out. Fortunately theyre considerate enough to smoke outside if i’m at their apartments.
So, smoke, enjoy, it’s your life, it’s not my place to tell you you can’t.
Okay Stoid, you said your piece and you said you want to now leave this alone and let this thread die. Which is fine with me - except I’ve been stewing about this all night.
What’s irking me?
The fact that you seemed to have missed the point of my post (which consisted of levity and hyperbole)?
No - we’re all entitled to our interpretations.
The fact that you ignore other dangerous activities and want focus solely on smoking?
No - we all have our pet projects.
The fact that you’re comparing apples and oranges with this statement? -
No - even though nobody here posted anything saying “I have emphazema, lung cancer and I need a machine to breath for me, but damnit I still love to smoke.” which would have made your argument more poignant.
What really irks me is that you demand to have the last word.
With that, let me just say - "HA!"
Sheesh Ignore a thread and it comes back to haunt you.

Well, ya know, there’s alot of talk around here about “protecting the children” who visit from the horrors of porn that might be linked to. How about protecting them from the horror of believing that smoking is in any way a good idea, for any reason. They don’t need to hear that. I have no idea hold old Frey is, but his question alarmed me.**
Thanks for the concern Stoidela, but my health is my own concern.
I’ll be 42 come December and as I said in my original posting, I’ve no desire to take up smoking. I’ve lived thru the original Surgeon General’s warning and later on the more dire warning from Dr. Koop.
I asked about the pleasure of smoking simply because I’ve never understood what all the excitement was about. What was the pleasure? To me, the smell of smoke seemed terrible, I could only imagine what the taste was like. I also thought the nicotine rush was part of it. Thanks to everyone who answered me.
Do you remember when we were kids that smoking was permitted virtually everywhere? The only concessions made for non-smokers that I can recall was to confine smoking in movie theatres to the balcony, and smoking in hospitals was confined to certain areas…although I remember smoking in my mother’s hospital room was permitted. Bizarre, huh?
But my favorite was smoking in the market…butts all over the floor… yipes.
