I’m guessing they it wasn’t as easy as just changing the name back, just based on personal experience & his reaction.
If it was, then I agree with you 100%.

OP: You went to school with HEAT MISER?
How AWESOME is that?
Perhaps the blood of the inculpable will cause a paradigm shift…
Wasn’t that in the mission statement from Jerry Maguire?
It was just a memo.
I think you are kinda missing the point of the OP here. I don’t think he came in here to calmly and precisely describe using acutely appropriate terms the simple circumstances surrounding his former friend’s breakdown. I think he instead came in the Pit to vent. So yeah, if you wanna be an asshat and nitpick what he says go right ahead.
I for one can certainly empathize. I can’t begin to fathom how I’d begin to take in the news that one of my high school chums had nearly gone on a killing spree. I can certainly understand Arizona’s want to at least try to put some of his confusion down in words though.
I think the term you’re looking for is “Mentally Ill”. No need to make it into something more than that.
He should called it Sodomy; liquor in the front and poker in the rear.
But…from what I understood they didn’t sink his business, just the name. The fact that he tried to get cute and not just pick a different name is what killed it.
Right?

So what is the penalty for felonious letter writing, anyways? Or is it worse if it’s called a manifesto?
Send him to a shrink, get him on some meds, and let him go. Lots of people rave like that.
And while they’re at it, give him the liquor license. It’ll keep him busy.
But this is Maricopa county, right? Home of the tent city jail where they feed you on 30 cents a day?
Well, it got Karl Marx deported.
Damn, but that’s right.
I’ll bet this nut wishes he did get deported by now. Do they still brag about feeding the inmates green bologna?
Green bologna? Who eats that? Son of Sam-I Am?
His liquor license has not even been denied. The city council voted to turn it down, since he was basically lying on his application, but they are only advisory, the state liquor board has the final say and they haven’t ruled yet. So he was planning on killing a bunch of people because of something that hasn’t actually happened yet. :smack:
Joe Arpaio was the Maricopa County sheriff who came up with the idea of a tent city jail. Page down to CONTENTS and click on “Changes to jail operations.”
He was re-elected a number of times.

I feel for you. It has to be a shock to find out something like this about somebody you know. Kind of brings it home. And then to think about the people you know who were there? Wow. I’m so glad he didn’t follow through, although it does kind of seem like he might have been more talk than action. But it sounds like he was pretty much armed to the teeth. Breathe. And talk. It’ll get better.
ArizonaTeach, I can sympathize with what you feel. This goes beyond RO for you, it actually hits close to home. Imagine how much worse you would feel if he actually had carried it out and killed an unknown number of people. Too bad other people didn’t have an attack of conscience such as the guy who shot up the city council meeting in Missouri. At least this guy is likely to get some kind of professional help now that he has been arrested.
And a spliting headache.
Thanks all…after a couple days the shock wears off some! Like you all, I’m extremely thankful that nothing happened and am glad that he stopped himself. He’ll get help. Hearing about what happened in St. Louis really makes one realize how much worse it could have been.
I bet if someone had pointed out that Drink’N’Stein’s was a much better (and far more clever) name he’d have had a “Throw Mama From The Train ‘sultry’ moment”.
