Man saves murder hornet from parasite with his bare hands

one this guy has balls o steel two he’s crazy and 3 ewwww this is sorta gross you are warned

that was my first thought …but i guess if you follow the “all creatures great and small” credo …

…then he murdered an innocent worm…

It sounds like he was complicit, but the frog may be the felon in this one.

Isn’t there some fable relevant to this situation?

Ah, yes…

Crap, that’s gross!

The article says Ebira Mosura is an “insect enthusiast.” Is Mosura even his real family name?

Yeah, but what’s the murder hornet’s quality of life post-surgery?

Right to lifers gonna be upset

The honey bees would like to lodge a complaint.

I’m in awe anyone could hold a hornet and not get badly stung.

Or bitten. check out the jaws, those murder hornets can reportedly extract a good-sized chunk of flesh with each bite.

Not only that, but “Ebira” is the name of the giant kaiju shrimp (It’s not really a lobster) that Godzilla fought in Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster (though usually spelled “Ebirah”)

Are we sure that the article has been properly vetted? Because having someone named “Ebira Mosura” doing something is a bit like finding someone with the name “Dracula Frankenstein” .

Bonus Fun Fact – that movie not only has Godzilla and Ebirah, but also Mothra in it “Ebira Mosura” sounds like 2/3 of the kaiju cast. The guy doesn’t have a middle initial “G”, doe he?

Extra Bonus Fun Fact – The title of Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster in the original Japanese is

Gojira, Ebira, Mosura: Nankai no daikettó

“Ebira Mosura is an insect enthusiast” – Yeah, I’ll bet. My Spider Sense is definitely tingling.

I might be mis-remembering, but in Japan doesn’t insect enthusiast have connotations of an uncool, nerdy subculture? Similar to stamp collector in the US.

Paging @TokyoBayer.

Being a “grass eater” is not supposed to be cool:

It’s not. The video starts off with his giving his name, Kuro something. 黒 kuro means black, and is a common component of a last name, such as the film director Akira Kurosawa 黒澤.

It looks like fake news to me.

Checking online, there are other similar videos of removing parasites from Asian giant hornets スズメバチ suzumebachi. Here is another one:

This guy keeps them in a glass cage and goes through the process a bit more, including showing how one of them was not moving very much. He said that the type of hornet he keeps is less aggressive than other varieties.

I suspect that this video was from a similar hobbyist and then someone made up the story line from there. Sloppy journalism.

Mmmm. Not sure. Japanese kids love to collect kabutomushi (カブトムシ) Japanese rhinoceros beetle, Japanese horned beetle.

So it’s more common than stamp collecting. My kids had some for a while, but they do tend to die regularly. After the kids got older, they had better luck with a dwarf hamster.

I presume this is a whoosh that I’m not getting, but grass eaters are something entirely different, of course.

Not a whoosh, but a wild unsubstantiated guess this may have been the term @Pleonast heard about concerning nerds. On second thought, you are probably right, insects <-> grass, let alone eating grass, is not an obvious connection (except in the case of insects which do just that, which is why I even thought of it).

His Youtube 'nym is Kurosyamo.

I don’t have any indication of his real name, but I’m sure it isn’t Ebira Mosura. Someone was having some fun at the gullible press’ expense.

Eating grass has some bad connotations in western culture too.
