There have been several very insightful posts so far… but I feel I’d like to add that…
- Boating while drunk is often illegal, so there’s his first mistake
- Getting into an argument while drunk is stupid
- Getting into an argument in front of children is reprehensible
- Hitting a kid is cruel and unforgiveable
- Threatening to throw a child overboard for crying would probably produce the opposite of the desired effect, so really stupid
- Throwing a child off of a boat is illegal and unforgiveable
- Letting other people rescue your own child for you is lazy and cruel
- Assaulting a police officer is REALLY stupid and illegal
- Doing all of this in front of witnesses requires massive, massive balls. Balls so large they probably sink boats. Does anyone know if the boat sank afterwards??

When I was eight I had a friend whose father was like this. Always angry and spoiling for a fight, never spoke when he could shout, frightening the children to tears and then calling them “Goddamned bawl babies” when they cried.
And if he was losing an argument with his wife, he’d slap her. And that was the end of the argument.
