Of course, were the rooms split in twain as in Dr. M. R. James’ 'Number 13’ they could have restless nights.
Multiple rifles were found of different calibers, including AR- and AK-type; apparently two scoped and with bipods; reportedly one or two “bump fire” adapted stocks were found. Not clear however which were the ones actually used.
One of them is shown in a photo in this article.
It looks like a .308 caliber rifle. Reports say of the 23 guns found in the room there were both .308 and .223 rifles. Some insist that among them were at least one fully automatic or select fire rifle, others say it was a bump stock or trigger crank that simulated fully automatic fire. I’m sure the details will all emerge eventually. The gun in that photo was almost certainly one he used since it was propped up near the window. At a glance it looks semi-auto without a bump stock or trigger crank but I’m not an expert.
The smoke detector led them to the exact room but within seconds of him starting to shoot people already knew generally where it was coming from. It’s pretty likely police were already on the way to the general area when the hotel staff notified them about the smoke detector.
But I’m not insisting a suppressor would have bought him much if any extra time, just that whatever claimed reduction in accuracy or firepower it would have caused wouldn’t have made any difference in this situation. As I said, if he had a .22 carbine this still would have been a massacre.
That is not at all consistent with everything I’ve read, and the videos I’ve watched that show people in confusion for several minutes before they even started to try to flee. It was extremely unclear where the gunfire was coming from, as it was from such a great distance to a lot of the concertgoers. Many people lied down on the ground, which would make sense if the shooter was also at ground level, but not so much when he’s shooting from above.
It took police 72 minutes to find him, so no, not really.
I’ve seen picture of two of them, both were AR- pattern rifles, and I’m fairly confident they were both chambered in .223 / 5.56mm.
One had a Slide Fire (or knock-off) bump-fire stock and one of those high-capacity SureFire magazines, with an EoTech optic on a flat-top rail. The other had regular standard-capacity P-mags, a scope and bipod, and what looked like a fairly regular stock, possibly from Daniel Defense.
If the latest timeline is correct, police were outside of his door 16 minutes after shooting and the gunman was no longer firing. They did wait almost another hour before blowing the door.
Here’s an enlarged version of the photo I linked. I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure that is a .308. and every report indicates that some .308 weapons were found.
Yeah, I think you’re right. Here are the two pictures I had seen.
The rifle in your picture and my #2 appear to be the same rifle, just in different locations. In looking at it closer now, the Pmags in and next to it in my photo probably are this .308 version.
2 points I think are important about that. He may have killed himself soon after they showed up at the door. If there was no more shooting it’s smart to slow down and not rush in and possibly get people killed.
Also the munitions and equipment needed for an explosive breaching are not routinely carried during normal duties. It may have taken a little time to get it there. Again, no shooting means they can take their time.
Yep, I certainly wasn’t criticizing the waiting. Just pointing out that’s where the 72 minutes came from.
Fuck Yeah! Do you know how much he had to pay for that beer?
This is Las Vegas. Those rooms will be refurbed and ready to go less than a week after the investigation is done. ![]()
dougie:
So there may be a list available soon of the deceased; I hope your cousin and family are okay.
Thanks for your concern. I have found out that they were not anywhere near the scene of the shootings and are just fine.
^ Good news, everyone!
One a police page I follow it was posted that there is now an investigation going on to find out who leaked the crime scene photos. Along with the gun photos others have posted here you can find pictures of the suspect’s corpse online. Someone is going to be in big trouble.
I won’t be surprised if there’s a Boston connection; AFAIK a Boston news channel was the first to air pics of the guns.
