Manhattan: wake up call or whiny bitch?

You really expect him to admit he’s wrong?

The same dude who won’t admit that there are a number of lefties who think he’s a dipshit? (Since then we have to add Metacom to the list).

You don’t get it, glee.

A UK-style National Health Service would be supported by only a minority in the Democratic Party, though I would guess that a majority would go along with universal health care. (The latter subsumes the former.)

Similary, rural Democrats aren’t too keen on gun control, as a rule.

Thus, the US Democratic Party is more akin to the British Tories.

As I already told Bricker, I don’t respond to tantrums. I believe I characterized the typical tenor of your posts pretty accurately.

Ashtar, gonna go after **Unc ** and **beagledave ** for hijacking either? No? Why not?

Hamlet, remember the rule of holes: When you’re in one, stop digging. Consider what you told me about the number of people who have called *you * an asshole, in the thread you started for what you claim was the purpose of finding out. It’s amazing you haven’t asked for either thread to be closed yet - you must be a masochist.

For the third time: please put your responses here. Not every thread must be about you.

I do like reading Conservative points of views (minus the bullying). Airman Doors is a good man. Roger doesn’t fit neatly into any category, but always gives me lots to think about. I like hearing Sam Stone’s and Starving Artist’s and John Mace’s opinions. I even like Shodan’s wit and insight when he isn’t being…well, you know. There are lots of you whose opinions have weight with me. And yes, I argue with you anyway.

If Manny resigned for the reasons he said that he did, then he is a quitter. It was more important to him to win than to it was to teach or to learn. He saw “battles” rather than opportunities. When he couldn’t win by bullying people into submission, he quit.

You can’t teach by humiliating people.

If Bush bashing were being done just to aggravate Bush supporters, then it would be trolling. But I don’t think it’s fair to make that assumption at all.

Bush is eminently bashable, not only because he’s President of such an important country, but because he’s so darned unusual. But I do get the feeling that some people (broadly speaking, anti-Republican, or, more accurately, anti-neocon - whatever that means) “bash” him out of baser motives, for example, jealousy. After all, on the face of it, he’s achieved the highest elected office in the world even though he’s no great shakes at anything much - business, brains, even communication. But he’s got “it”. And in some people, who don’t have it themselves, this sets off the mother and father of all reactions. Which, like all such reactions, actually tells us more about them and their weaknesses than it does about Bush and his.

Maybe Bush’s greatest function is to bring people to a place of critical self-reflection and increased self-awareness.

Tell me, if I restate the challenges to you made by Bricker and Unclebeer, will you dismiss me as well, claiming I’m having a tantrum?

5 bucks says he’ll dismiss it, even odds on the reason.

From statements like this one I reflect that the term “silver spoon” is blisfully ignored by the right regarding Bush. He became president because of the network that supports (and leads) him. As other poster mentioned before: without the family and cronie friends that lifted him up from his past and current failures, today he would be a nice greeter at Wallmart.

Sorry Mannie’s gone. He was once an interesting, though a hard-nosed fellow. Later a still-interesting …hmm…prick. later, interesting lost out. Shrug.

Nonsense: Bush isn’t stupid nor ungifted. The problem is that the Silver Spoon allowed him to slack and never develop whatever native gifts he might have had. He’d probably be a much different, and probably more capable person without his pampered upbringing, but we’ll never know.

What, you mean like the Buddha?

Well, more like Popper. I’m afraid I can never bring myself to trust men who have 4-point plans and 8-step processes. Too slick.

Not sure what I would miss the most about manhattan - his snide, holier-than-thou attitude, or his distinctive, trademark rage fits.

Probably his snide, holier-than-thou attitude. His rage fits had become merely tiresome years ago, but at least one could tell he was thinking about certain things and not simply parroting the belief structure of the right-wing talk show hosts. Well, sometimes.

No kidding. All four of these posters should have been banned a long time ago. It doesn’t take many to drag the whole board down.

Too damn bad, Hamlet - *you * made this thread about everyone you called out by name in your own fucking OP. As for the subsequent course of this thread, if you really want it to be about the tone of discourse on the board, surely your own energetic efforts in helping drag it down are relevant. Just as surely, since the efforts (which you claim to deplore) to hijack the thread back to where you started have been made by a fair number of people, you are equally willing to chastise all of them as well. Right?

debaser, bone up on the board rules. Random, looks like you ain’t got shit either.

We just keep them around to drive you nuts. Look, it works!!

Where’s my $5?

Yup, I thought you’d continue to dodge. As neither I nor (apparently) anyone else with any credibility on this board have any respect for you, I see no point in ever responding to your nonsense in the future.

On what pretext? Personal antipathy by some number of other posters? Based on that criterion, december’s sojourn should have been 18 - 24 months shorter than it was without waiting for explicit violations to accumulate and milroyj should have been banned in 1999. “Don’t be a jerk” is flexible, but it does not extend to “ban 'em 'cause someone dislikes 'em.”
Now, a couple of those posters have had periods where their enthusiasm exceeded their good sense and they were, indeed, told to modify their habits. From what I can see, they have, indeed, modified those habits (at least for now).

Well, since you asked…Dio’s a nut, but he’s a fun nut and he’s gotten a lot better lately, he should stay. Rjung and reeder are nothing more than political trolls, and Elvis should be banned because he continually misrepresents what other posters say, although he avoids changing direct quotes to skirt the formal rule. If you guys cleaned house once and a while you might notice a year where the total number of paying posters went up instead of down. MHO only, YMMV.
