Yes, I find it surprising that people think this board leans to the left, or that there is a majority of liberals.

From the UK point of view, the Republicans are right-wing, with the fundamentalists on the extreme right. The Democrats are in the centre.
We take extensive gun control and a National Health service for granted. Religion has no role in our political life.

So that board belongs to you, but I only use it as an example of how the political flavor of a board can cause me to avoid the parts that include discussions that are political or can be politicized. and how I find it especially awkward when I’m friends with the people with whom I would be disagreeing. Nobody wants to think their friends hold the same views as people one considers morons; it reflects poorly on the friends and the person who chose them as friends.

I got the “U” reference originally but the rest didn’t follow. You were saying in the prior post that my board has a surplus of conservative posters? I disagree; I believe that my place is in fact very evenly balanced, very close to about 50/50. And aside from that there are 2 conservative and 2 liberal admins; if I had to rank my Mods I’d call them 2 conservative, 2 liberal, and 2 middle.

I guess compared to the SDMB and related places my place is “conservative”, not on an absolute scale. But off-board things like that shouldn’t be discussed on this place any further.

Which was why I tried to be just a scosh non-literal. But I agree about the mix. I just prefer to avoid ALL disagreements when I’m just hanging out and of my “just hanging out” boards it wasn’t just your board that I stopped hanging out at during the election season. Yours was merely used as an example.

We learned the hard way that playing by the rules is apparently something only patsies do. Screaming, fear mongering and bullying seem to be quite effective…and we also learned it can never start too early. Pleased to see my little rattle of sabres has already hit a nerve! It works!! Now I am looking forward to the next three and a half years! I should be a pro at pissing off Republicans by then, and will wear that badge with honor!

BTW, I got to meet Manhattan at a Las Vegas Dopefest, and he is a great guy to hang around with. And just because he is politically challenged and jingo is his name, doesn’t mean we still can’t drink a beer together and agree to disagree. I recall AirmanDoors once took a little well deserved break during the election. He is somebody else whose opinion I really value, no matter how misguided I think it is. You know that when he responds you get a fair answer to a fair question. AirmanDoors at least came back. I would miss him more than any other Doper when it comes to reading opposing viewpoints!

At the time he had second thoughts, the honorable thing to do would have been to request that this one be closed, and to start another saying what he did mean. He did do the latter, and it was hilarious as hell.
