Manual signatures in thread - same "rule" as automated signature?

Afraid it’ll possess your computer?

Please consider it already reported. As Marley said, we’re discussing the issue, and a whole bunch of additional reports would simply clutter up our already bursting mailboxes.

As a general rule, please always err on the side of reporting something, because it’s better to get two notifications than none at all. But in this case, we’re already quite aware of it.

I live on the ragged edge of life, baby. Don’t try to rein me in.

Ironic post from someone called “DrDeth”.

 Good one

You weren’t aboard the U.S.S. Shields in Feb. of '68 by any chance, were you?

We had a guy who would get hold of the mic and do that every chance he got once the officers had left the ship (which was tied up next to a tender in San Diego; everyone but those on watch could go ashore every evening).

I came here to ask this same question.

Didn’t we hash this out over another poster a year or two ago that did the same thing? Not as bizarre and over the top with smilie faces, but still very abrasive?

Perhaps someone can remember the poster, and the “under the skin” sig he posted with every post. It was then the rule of “one time per thread” came out, unless it was something like

Regards,
Poster

Or some such one word sign-off.

Anyway, I think we need a ruling on this soon. I have no idea who James Otto is, nor do I care. I also have no idea why this poster is in love with James Otto, and needs to tell us, with smile faces, in everyone of her posts. However, I wonder what will be permitted if you (TPTB) allow this?.

What if someone was big on Adolf Hitler, chose the user name Adolf Hitler Sweet Heart,
And signed each post with something like

Hey Now! :):)
God Bless Adoph and pray for the Rise of the Fourth Reich! ! !
I suspect that this would draw the ire of the board and howls of protest.

Too far-fetched an example? Ok, what if someone decides that they love puppies, and want to tell us in each post their love for puppies? A user name like Puppy Love Sweet Heart

YIP! YIP! :p:p:p

God bless puppies always !!! :p:p:p

So why not nip this James Otto thing in the bud before the TM start becoming creative with their signatures and/or sign-offs?

James Otto Sweet Heart makes her feelings known with each post she makes. Her user name does it. I don’t think repeating it in this most absurd way makes sense in any way.

(the really strange thing is, I have no idea what this person’s opinions are about… I see the bizarre smilies and !!!, and I skip the post.)

My apologies…

After spending some time reading threads here and in the Pit, I realize I am VERY late to this party.

It would seem that this has stirred much more emotion than I realized, and I appear to have added my $.02 to a Scrooge McDuck-sized vault of coins. Virtually worthless.

Is “Virtually Worthless” going to be your new signature? :):):)

They’d be instabanned.

And I think we’re going to leave James Otto Sweet Heart’s signoff alone. It’s not insulting, offensive, or hostile, and it’s not being a jerk in any way that I would interpret the rule.

So what’s the point of restricting Signatures to once a thread?

They’re usually bigger and more annoying.

Hence this thread. This posters sign off is big, graphic (all those smilies) and annoying. It’s as long or longer than many sigs.

I agree. Those of us who find certain (or all) signatures annoying can avoid them by disabling them in the control panel. We can’t avoid a repeated annoying sign-off that involves the same phrase every time along with multiple smilies and exclamation marks.

Ok so three exclamation points and 3 smiley faces in every post is fine, but everyone here throws a conniption fit when people want to use blue font and comic sans?

<_<

There’s a reason I have signatures turned off- they bug the dogsnot outta me.

Can you at least request that she put it in as an official signature so those who want to can turn it off?

Or at least turn off the smileys every time?

This. Since that “sign off” is much bigger, longer and distracting than a short sentence (which a lot of signatures are), I think relegating it to where the signatures go only makes sense.

And for Og’s sake, think about the Internet-wide emoticon quota! The day the Internet runs out of smilies is the day I don’t want to be alive anymore…

It is pretty annoying. And it can’t be auto-suppressed.

Just thought I would throw in my pocket change.
