Manually set an IP address for LaserJet 5?

How can I manually set an IP address for a HP LaserJet 5 printer?

I seem to have lost my ability to do basic networking. The printer was working fine last week and now nobody can print to it. We did change the IP addresses on our network and I never did anything for the LaserJet, but it had worked. Now, the old IP address is the only thing that I can see that may be giving us problems.

Of course I am more than willing to assume that I am responsible for some user error. If the IP address isn’t the issue, what else could it be?

Going by memory since i’m not at work to check, but one of the menus should say “Config” or something like that. You may have to turn off DHCP in order to set the IP statically (and you’ll have to change subnet mask and default gateway also). Then turn it off/on and try to ping it–just to see if it will respond to the new address.

You don’t by any chance happen to use NetWare or JetAdmin do you?

If you know the original IP address, try setting a PC to an IP address on the subnet of the printer, and http to it. If that doesn’t work, try ftping to it.

If you don’t know the original IP address, but you know the original LAN, try setting up a PC on the original LAN and doing a ping scan of the entire space (which will be quick), and if that doesn’t find it, do a port scan for port 9100, and if that doesn’t find it, do a port scan for everything.

errr don’t ftp to it. I meant telnet to it.

It could be conflicting IPs.
