Network Printer IP Address Hell On Earth

I just bought a Phaser 550 color laser network printer off of Ebay, and I’ve really backed myself into a corner. Any help you can give is much appreciated.

When I bought the printer, the IP address was 144.48.68.48, and I wanted to change that. So I changed my workstation IP address to the same subnet, logged in to the printer via http, and changed the IP address scheme to dynamic, with the idea that my Netgear MR814 router would assign it a dynamic IP address (with the ultimate goal of reserving a fixed IP address for its MAC address).

Instead, I seem to have lost all access to the printer. The new configuration page lists an IP address of 0.0.0.0(Dynamic), a network mask of 0.0.0.0 and a broadcast address of 255.255.255.255.

I’ve tried resetting the NVRAM on the printer to no effect.

According to my router, the printer is not listed as an attached device. I’ve also tried pinging the entire range from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.255.255 not finding anything but my computers.

Does anyone have any idea how I can communicate with this long lost printer?

Seth

Can’t you configure it via the front panel?

BTW are you sure you set it for DHCP and not RARP?

This is why using DHCP with network printers is a bad idea. Is there any way to change the IP address to something permanent via the printer’s control panel? I find it hard to believe that the manufacturer would sell a printer that was configurable via HTTP only.
