March 28, 2026 - No Kings Day marches and rallies

Moderating: And the word for someone who posts like this is Junior Mod. Just flag the post if you think it is off topic, it was in this case. Don’t get snarky and insulting.

My cousin in Winchester, Virginia sent me some photos of their No Kings rally.

She said they had a great lineup of speakers and music and about 1000 people attending!

I got an email from Indivisible this morning that estimated 8 million. That’s lower than I was hoping for…

Rachel Maddow will have a good overview tomorrow night on her show.

Big turnout in MSP, which was expected; estimated at over 100,000. Our niece and nephew were there, but alas, we are old and decrepit and standing/walking can be problematic. It appears that it was peaceful, with no Proud Boys or the like creating a fuss. Springsteen and Baez did some singing, and politicians yakked. There were smaller protests in the city as well.

I look forward to the day when we can add an “N” to our “ICE OUT” on the living room window.

Yes, media promoting the interests of their owners don’t seem inclined to cover protests against those interests. Even though such coverage is their averred reason for existence.

A few hundred thousand Tea Party protesters—wall-to-wall coverage, because they were on the “right” side. Eight million protesting the right—that belongs below the fold. “Wrong” side. Distasteful to the owners.

This study came out after the October 2025 NO KINGS protests, but is still relevant:

One of the attendees at Cleveland’s protest was a bald eagle. I was hoping to find a better picture than Mom’s way-zoomed-in phone-camera shot, but I guess he was too high up.

Apparently there was one in St. Paul, too.

I went. Took the dogs. We had a good time. No troubles. About the same crowd as last go round, but only saw maybe three cars with Pro-Asshole shit this time. Much reduced.

At our protest there were a number in the old and decrepit category who drove by multiple times with signs and flags and enthusiastic honking. We were not a march but a crowd lining the main drag through town.

But we were a small protest (estimates of 800-1000) so driving by in support was feasible. Probably not in a big city.

I’ve seen virtually no coverage today of yesterday’s marches and protests. There was a small article in some national media outlet that I can’t even remember right now. Talk about anticlimactic.

Well the protest really was a one afternoon thing.
I’m glad and grateful that gathering like that brings people hope and a sense of togetherness, but what can come of it?
The protest was election day, and the good guys lost. What’s more to report?

The largest single-day protest in American history? Seems like a big deal.

Last night Rachel Maddow covered it thoroughly, as expected. WTG, Rachel.

She said (paraphrasing) that the New York Times “grudgingly” covered the protests, but below the fold because basically it was too big to ignore. Hehe.

I don’t understand this comment.

This post was on Monday and says yesterday. Were there Sunday protests I should be aware about?

I think it was still Sunday then in the USA.

No it was already Tuesday here, still Monday in US

Ignore me. I thought it was Monday here.
What a muppet.

FYI Local news* on Monday did show video of local protests (basically the same video they showed earlier - not sure it it was Saturday and/or Sunday, but it was aired at least once before)

A whole bunch of people getting together to oppose Trump is good, but the time to do that was Election Day. On that day, not enough people got together to do that, and thus we’re in the mess we’re in. People getting together now to oppose him can’t have the same impact.

It can have an impact on what people do next election day.

I appreciate your hope and optimism. My post above was in response to the disappointment about the lack of further media coverage.
