Division IV (1987-2006)** The Silence of the Lambs (#9) [del]vs Schindler’s List (#15 wildcard)[/del]
It’s been there all along. Longer, in fact, than the other movies left. Because there are 78 movies that have won the oscar and only 64 slots in the play-off, I ran a wild card round first of the 28 lowest seeded movies. The 14 winners from that round were matched up with the other 50 movies for the first regular round.
Division I (1927-1946) Casablanca
Easy win over “It happened One Night,” pulling away in the second quarter for an 82-65 victory.
Division II (1947-1966) The Bridge on the River Kwai
A bit of a surprise winner over another Lean team, “Lawrence of Arabia.” O’Toole poured in 32 for the Arabian squad, but Kwai’s bench strength came through for a 79-77 squeaker.
Division III (1967-1986) The Godfather (#3)
Easily beat the Cuckoos 88-76 with excellent perimeter shooting.
Division IV (1987-2006) Schindler’s List
The Lambs came out strong in the first and dominated in the fourth, but the Schindler Jews put up big numbers in the second and third for a 91-83 win.
