Man, so many tournaments to keep up with. Hope I can stay with this one through the championship. My picks:
Division I (1927-1946) Casablanca (#5) vs It Happened One Night (#11)
Casablanca, for all the memorable scenes and quotes. It Happened One Night is a worthy competitor, though.
Division II (1947-1966) The Bridge on the River Kwai (#9) vs Lawrence of Arabia (#7)
No strong feeling – I’ll go with The Bridge on the River Kwai, but vote against the survivor of this battle in the next round.
Division III (1967-1986) One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (#5) vs The Godfather (#3)
Cuckoo’s Nest, which was a brutal draw for Amadeus earlier. That battle was worthy of the Elite Eight, if not more rarefied air.
Division IV (1987-2006) The Silence of the Lambs (#9) vs Schindler’s List (#15 wildcard)
The Silence of the Lambs, although its competition is responsible for great gags in both Seinfeld (“You made out during Schindler’s List?”) and The Simpsons (Burns explaining that he and Schindler both made weapons for the Nazis, “but mine worked, dammit!”)
The Semi-Finals. The Final Four. The Divisional Champions.
Because of the drama of this competition, there will be an extra day of voting. Okay, the truth is I’ll be at work tomorrow night. Anyway, the votes will be counted at midnight on Sunday.
The rules are simple, and by now, you should know them. If not, you’re probably in over your head and should get out of this thread while you still can.
