whoa! the school needs to get a protocol up and running.
Yes, I’ve tried all the disable/enable options - Fn keys and the dedicated
touchpad button. The usb mouse is ok and I’ve started looking for a replacement. Thanks !
I could see how it would be useful if two people are playing two different games but I wish they’d throw gaming spouses a bone. We’ve long had an issue with console games phasing out couch co-op and the number of games I can play with my husband have dwindled. This just feels like more of the same denial of the reality that cohabitating people play games together.
I get your frustration, but that’s been a standard licensing agreement for decades. The fact that Steam allows library sharing in their family group is already (by industry standard) generous. My sons often use my Paradox games licenses, until they want to play together.
Oh I understand, that is why when I knew a friend was going to visit I looked up games on Steam that we could play at the same time. If you look for “Shared/Split Screen Co-op” you can find a number of games that you can play while sharing the same screen. One we had fun with was Contra: Operation Galuga, and we didn’t even need the Konami code to make it through the levels
There was also the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cowabunga collection which includes quite a bit of the games (include gameboy releases!) as well as the arcade versions which allow up to 4 people to play.
I don’t know if any of those are something you would want to play but we had a great time playing together in person.

Have similar issues with Amazon. My husband has Amazon Prime, so if I need something, he has to order it, because we can’t share.
I’ve been working on my taxes, and things are not going well. Last year I had started collecting Social Security on my late wife’s account. Because of the amount of my federal pension, it turns out that most of my Social Security benefits are taxable. And the senior reduction in my taxable income is not the full $6000.00
Also, last year as part of a roof repair I had to have a skylight replaced. Because the skylight includes a solar shade it supposedly qualified for a 30% energy tax credit. However, when I started filling out the necessary form I found out that manufacturer of the skylight had dropped out of the program after my skylight was installed, and therefore I no longer qualified for the credit. I spoke with the roofing company and found out that I wasn’t the only person caught like this. I checked with the IRS and confirmed that without the required manufacturer code I can’t request the credit.
It’s been zero days since I found out a coworker died over the weekend. Just saw him last week.
Have you tried linking through Amazon Family? It should still be a part of Prime; I’ve got Mom linked on my account.
My wife is linked to my Prime account as a family member, and she can make purchases no problem.
It didn’t work until I made sure she was set up as a family member properly.
Oh my God, I just got the genius of the thread title. Good one.
That works in the US, but was not available in Canada last I checked (checks): ooh, it looks like it became available last fall. I’ll look into it!
Obligatory daylight savings time whining. I’m so tired. I would have gone back to bed if it weren’t for a doctor’s appointment. Yesterday I got through the day by watching work-related webinars, but alas, I am out of webinars. So I’m going to have to figure out something else for my soft and sleepy little brain to do. Reorganize the grant files on the development drive?
Oh, and also, fuck the government. There is a proposal to radically alter requirements to register in the System for Award Management (SAM) which is necessary to receive federal grants. Requirements, unsurprisingly, that involve prohibitions against “illegal DEI,” cooperation with ICE, “support for terrorism” and the usual patently illegal Trump bullshit. Currently open for public comment!
Sorry to hear that, Die_Capacitrix. Hugs.
OMG, that’s incredible! I’m going to quote that in the “Compendium of Horrors” thread.
It’s the tip of the iceberg of what’s happening to non-profits. I’ve also noticed an increase in negativity about nonprofits from the general public, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an active smear campaign meant to erode the public trust in non-profits. Trump has already issued several executive orders casting non-profits as bastions of left-wing extremism and threatening us with charges of government fraud if we participate in “illegal DEI” - regardless of whether we use federal funds to do whatever they don’t like. It’s endless bullshit and it just keeps coming.
Last year I had geared myself up for an argument for when I cancelled my Comcast accounts. I walked into the store and told them I wanted to cancel and handed them their equipment. They tapped about 7 keys on the computer, thanked me and sent me on my way. No arguments. So why would I think it would be any different at Verizon?
Here’s the thing … I’m leaving town. I do not need by Verizon internet anymore - just the phone. So I truck it down to the Verizon store with my modem thingie, hand it to them and tell them I want to cancel my Internet.
“You have to do that on the app.”
“You can’t just close it here at the store?”
“No, you have to do it through the app, or you can call customer service.”
“Ok, well, here’s my equipment, I guess I’ll go cancel things with my laptop.”
“Oh, you’ll have to take the modem back with you; you can’t turn this in until the account is actually cancelled.”
“You have got to be kidding me.”
Long story, short, I ended up struggling through not be able to retrieve my password for their app that I never use so the guy called some super-secret customer service number which was another nightmare. I’m sitting there in the Verizon store … “Yes!” … “No!” … “Cancel Internet!” … “No!” … what the fuck, can I talk to a fucking person on this CUSTOMER SERVICE line?
I finally get the go ahead from the customer service line that my internet account has been cancelled. So I turn around and walk to the clerk and say, “Am I all set now?”
“Oh, I don’t know? I wasn’t the one who was helping you.”
– steam starting to seep from my ears –
“Well. My account is cancelled, you’ve got my equipment, have a nice fucking day.” And I left.
H. Christ. What good is a Verizon store if you can’t do anything Verizon related in it? I generally don’t lose my cool like that these days, but I have to admit … it was a pretty cool flounce.
What the 'ell, the weather looks good, lemme try one more time. Sleep in all the way to 5:15 (since the clocks changed, which also means I’m going to be late to work since sunrise is basically an hour later) & drive out there. Conditions are absolutely perfect, including the bonus of high dew point which means light mist over the lake. They do official counts/estimates twice a week. It ended up being less than 1% of three days earlier. While I got some good shots, if I had the weather with the counts from last week I’d have a serious contender submission for wildlife shot of the year; instead I need to wait 11 more months.
We had to turn the AC on yesterday because the temperature was over 80 for the second straight day. Today it’s back in the 40s, had to turn the heat back on. Jeez, Mother Nature, make up your mind!
Well, our dumbass Japanese plum trees have begun to flower, thanks to a week of unseasonably warm temperatures. Predicted lows for early next week are around 20F, so blossoms and developing fruit will be killed. No plums again this year.
Stupid weather, stupid trees.
