God… ahem… bless you. I will give that a try.

Not sure, since I use an ad-blocker I never see any.
Today I had a day off. That is not the rant. The rant is that I needed to take my car to the shop to have them finish a repair that they could not do two weeks ago because of a missing part. Oh, and they cracked the windshield while doing another repair. I set up the earliest appointment I could (7:00) so I could get on with the rest of my day. The plan was to leave the car, walk over to a cafe to get breakfast and then walk back some time later (the repair was to take an hour). Things did not quite go to plan, and my total wait time ended up being almost 8 hours. Yes, everything is fixed and we have a new windshield, but that really was not what I was planning to do with my day. If I had know, I would have taken my metro card with me and headed home to take care of some things. Instead I was stuck in that nebulous situation where you aren’t quite sure what to do or work on because you have no idea when you can.
Anyway, tomorrow will be another day (in a few minutes).

Just fuck this weather. We lost Internet, we lost hot water, we’re lucky we have power. After two days of fierce wind, it’s 20F today. Nobody wants this.
I’ve been getting a ton of right wing propaganda on Facebook and I couldn’t figure out why. I can only come to the conclusion it’s because I friended my right wing sister.
It is NOT St Patty’s Day. The nickname for Patrick is PaDDy, not Patty or Patti.
…even though “Patty” and “Paddy” are homophones in American English, and name spelling conventions are more guidelines than rules these days.
It is NOT St Patty’s Day
You’re right, it’s St. Party’s Day; at least for the 85% of the population who is suddenly Irish today.
My son was disappointed to learn today that’s he’s not Irish. He’s a lot Sicilian and generic English and German. I told him he could celebrate St. Paddy’s Day anyway.
I ended up (badly) explaining the whole diaspora to him. “A long time ago there was famine in Ireland, meaning people didn’t have enough to eat, so they moved to the US… so they could eat. And they never left.” ![]()
I’m never so humbled than I am when hamfistedly trying to explain things to my kid. I keep telling myself I’ll have future opportunities to clarify.
That really seems like a pretty age-appropriate explanation for a 6(?) year old. No need to get into the reasons unless he asks.
Internet fixed. Surprisingly not wind-storm related - some critter chewed through a bunch of wiring under our house. We live in a manufactured home. Can’t wait to move somewhere where that doesn’t happen so easily.

I once had to break the news to my sister that the bulk of our ancestors were from the northern part of England and Scotland. I don’t know where she got Irish from
I was always told I have a lot of Irish blood.
But according to DNA it is about 15%. Not nothing, but not a lot.
At least, that’s what it’s saying now. They keep “adjusting” every year. Obviously, they are guessing. Still, while it keeps changing overall, the Irish part has stayed pretty consistent.
We had been well into Spring here until today. The high was 65F/19C. But at least it was gray, windy, & dripped intermittently. Which sucketh greatly.
Good news is I didn’t want to attend a faux Irish drunken revelry tonight, so I went down to the nigh-deserted tourist zone at the beach for HH & dinner.
Business trip. Hotel is fine for the price (chose closer to customer rather than nicer) and has both a pool and fitness center.
All good, but for the stationary bike pedals. The straps are broken so my foot keeps slipping and something keeps going click. Also has no monitor whatsoever and the seat is slippery.
Driving me crazy.
At least I’m using it!
Also, it’s snowy and super windy. Do I drive a few blocks away for a restaurant, or choose the McDonald’s and depanneur across the street? I generally hate McDonald’s.
Professionally speaking, always eat well when traveling.
It’s the morale boost you control. Hotels can be bleh, the customer can be uggh, the hours can be long, and the weather can be sucky.
A nice meal & a good tipple can offset all that. Or you can put a suck-cherry meal atop your suck-sundae trip at McDs.
Your call.
You’re definitely more of a pro than I am! I just have to consider the drive back if I want to enjoy a drink!
There’s a pool here. Looks ok. I might go for a soak while I contemplate my options.

If you hate McDonald’s, do not go. You will regret it. Take the time to go somewhere you don’t hate.
I actually don’t hate McDonald’s (don’t love it either, but it’s not the worst). There are, however, places I can’t stand to eat at, and I’ve eaten at those places out of convenience and been really pissed off at myself afterward.
(I’m looking at you, Qdoba.)
