Marianne - Netflix horror show - Anyone else watch this?

It is a Netflix original show made in French, but it offers an English audio track that is actually surprisingly great. I usually flip between audio’s on things like this to see how it is, but the truth is that the audio-mix and the voice actors in English really make this the rare show that is no big deal to just listen to in English.

The show:

It’s 8 episodes long and the shame is that the first 3 episodes are clearly the weakest. They have a great story here, but they front-load the show with some episodes that are basically standard horror-movie stuff. Jump scares, scary-old-lady, nothing special.

Wow, though, the final 5 episodes are actually really solid and I find myself recommending this show a lot more than I thought I would. At some point, I kind of just turned to my wife and said, “Uh, I think I’m liking this show now. Like, I’m totally pulled in and I am really surprised by that.”

Anyway, if you haven’t watched the show yet, you really should. Kind of a rough gem that doesn’t get fully polished until a few episodes in, but once it does, I thought it was great.

I have a hate for dubbed movies, but I tried this show. It looks like it would be really good, if I could get past the dubbing.

You have the option to just watch it in French if the dubbing bothers you. I found the English dub great, though.

No, but I’m gonna. Wiki synopsis looks interesting.

Watched episode 1. Subtitled. Can’t seem to get in dubbed English.

Very good for a S1E1 IMHO. VERY much had the atmosphere of ‘The Ring’. If you liked the subtle building creepiness and feeling of The Ring, you may want to look at this. This moves a little faster though.

How do you watch your Netflix? What device is running it?

I have watched five eps so far. Watching it in the original French with subtitles makes a huge difference. Dopey dubbed voices just make the suspension of disbelief needed for a story like this almost impossible.

It’s atmospheric and just plain creepy as all hell. I love that the actors are normal, natural looking people and yes, creepy old lady trope has been done a million times before but not like this one.

I don’t recall why I stopped watching( yes I do; I got hooked on *Wentworth *and have spent my tv watching time on that) but this thread has encouraged me to get back to it. I’ll probably have to rewatch some to remind me what’s going on.

What do you all think is the scariest/ most disturbing part? The opening scene was freaky as hell and was a good indication as to what the rest was going to be like. There are so many gasp worthy moments it’s hard to say but off the top of my head, I was really filled with dread during the scene where Emma comes home late and gets into bed with her boyfriend. He has his back to her/ us and you just know something’s going to be very, very wrong. She’s asking him to tun around and look at her and he says something like “are you sure you want me to turn around?” And I’m whimpering from my couch "no, please don’t! :o

DirecTV. I fiddled with the controls, and can turn CC on and off (for any show) did not find anything to turn dubbing on. I suspect, there are two Marianne’s. One that is dubbed, and the other with subtitles. Don’t really know.
