My stars, that’s probably the most outlandish thing people could possibly accuse the military of doing because of past actions. As in, “Yea, did you see the torture photos? I bet our military would throw puppies off a cliff if they had any puppies.” Except, now we have video of them doing just that. And I say “them” because when you’re in a uniform, at this point in history, you represent the entire military. Horrible, in so many ways.
I’ve held tons of puppies - and that one looked very real and alive to me. The sound was a classic puppy panic voice - and not a sound many peple hear often enough to imitate readily.
I really hope to be proven wrong…
It shows how REAL Marines treat puppies.
Warning, cute puppy pictures probably not appropriate for the Pit. I don’t care…I needed an antidote.
I think it is real.

My guess is fake. Mainly because of Bayesian reasoning. In my opinion, there’s a lot more people who think it would be funny to make a fake puppy throwing video than there are people who think it would be funny to make a real puppy throwing video.
Also, the dog doesn’t seem to squirm or yelp while the guy is swinging his arm back.
I just thought of something. Do we know if these guys are really Marines? Could they just be guys dressed up as Marines?
According to the article there is at least one specific suspect.
It looks real. Puppies, especially feral ones freeze exactly like that when they are caught. Anecdotal, but when I viewed the video the puppy’s distress cry got my female dog up off the ground and right over to me ears cocked, and whining in return.
If real, I think somebody just “volunteered” for mine-clearing duty. I hope one pissed-off Gunny makes a career out of ruining that guy’s life.
I just re-viewed it several times. I still think it’s a real dog, it might be dead already, hard to tell.
I think it’s real, but I don’t think those are humans.
C’mon guys, it’s a plush stuffed puppy toy with another Marine shouting “Yipe! Yipe! Yipe!” in the background. I can’t believe anyone is falling for this.
You can get stuffed animals that look just like the real thing. Like this one - look familiar?
I’ll eat my hat if this is real.
Autolycus seems to find some humor in it. I think that’s reprehensible IMHO.
Puns are not funny when (potential) dead puppies are involved. Nor are they ever funny for that matter. Keep that in mind.
None of those puppies look remotely like the one in the video. And they don’t even look real.
They look pretty real to me. Wow.
Whether the puppy is real or not (I also hope it isn’t) I hope these jackasses get what is coming to them. They need some serious lumps.

:smack: My only excuse was I was in a hurry and left as soon as I posted that.
::: Hangs head in shame:::
I saw this on my homepage and thought “I shouldn’t look” I should have followed my advice here too. Real or fake, this video is sick, made by a sick individual. The only thing that cures sickness like that, is lead, administered in repeated high concentrations to the termporal lobe.
I’ve proposed a suggestion for things like this before. People convicted of these kinds of animal cruelties should be required to register like sex offenders. There would be a legitimate rationale - there’s a clear link between people who torture animals and people who commit crimes against other humans. So for the next ten years or so, these guys should be required to tell all their neighbours and co-workers and dates that they were convicted in 2008 of throwing a puppy off a cliff in order to make a YouTube video.
Looks fake to me.
I don’t think a puppy would keep it’s legs all tucked in like that while falling through the air… it would splay them out for the landing. At least I think so. My puppy doesn’t wanna take one for the team and go experiment in the stairwell.
I don’t think my brain is going to let me think it’s real. The puppy looks very real, and even after it briefly goes out of frame it comes back looking the same. The yipping sounds sort of fake (though my own puppy didn’t like it). The ‘men’ in the video just look way too happy. Of course, it’s not too far out after seeing Abu Ghraib photos or reading stuff like this.
Now, the marines in the vid are both going to be identified (if both haven’t been already). This is 2008. They must know that. So if it is just a joke, why wouldn’t they come forward?
