I don’t suppose Nintendo will patch it.
Yeah, I agree. Somewhat cheesey but it came free with the game, and the extra one I bought was only 10 bucks. I wouldn’t use the tennis racket or golf club or any of that stuff, but they seem to be pretty inexpensive as well and I bet kids eat them up. I would if I was 8.
Does anyone know, in local multiplayer, does the game let you enable/disable each item, like in Smash Bros.?
I’ll play multiplayer this weekend. I’ll let you know then.
Well, I just did some online play and my suspicions (fears?) were confirmed. Completely indistinguishable from playing the computer. That is, except for the fact that you have to wait a lot longer to join a game of “real people.”
I don’t like to throw this word around lightly but this game’s online component is broken.
Well, why would you say that it’s broken? Also, “broken” means that it can be fixed. What would you fix?
I don’t see the point of playing against real people if you cannot communicate with them. I’d fix that. Voice chat preferably.
Well, that’s one. Anything gameplay-wise?
Are you wooshing me?
I am not. I think I was asking, in a roundabout way, if people have any exploits. If it’s the same as racing the computer, then the answer could be yes and no.
I guess they’re launching tournaments today, where they set a certain challenge for everyone to compete in. Apparently they can mess with the tracks, adding new obstacles, coins for collecting, etc. Sounds good, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Oh, I have no idea. I’m not hardcore enough to be in the loop on that. Before you go online it warns you that it’s doing a system update and if your box is illegally modified it will lose functionality. So my guess would be no . . . for now.
Well, not actual system modification. I was just wondering if there were any exploits like the old “hitting the standby” button that was going on.
Think I might put in for a tournament.
Did the tournament disappear? I wanted to try and get a better time today, but I just got a message that a tournament would start soon. Which doesn’t make sense, given that one had already started and was set to finish on the 9th. Maybe they discovered that the tournament leader cheated or something? (That time was ridiculously fast, with no one else even close to it, but then again I think the same thing about all the damn staff ghosts in the time trials)
The time was, what, 1:31 last I saw? I was getting something like 1:53 and I thought I was pushing it. That’s why I was asking if there was any known cheating online because it’d manifest itself there.
Well, I just picked up this game the other day. Been looking forward to it for a while since I loved Double Dash.
It pleases me. The new tracks are great; and I love the bikes. Wasn’t too keen on them at first when I was just fooling around, but once I got into Grand Prix mode, they grew on me. I love the speed boost you get from doing a backflip.
So far, I’ve gotten through 50cc Grand Prix and the new tracks on 100cc. At 8 cups/32 tracks, it’s taking a while. I just unlocked the Mii in uniform 1.
I like the online multiplayer. To me, even if I can’t talk to the other players, I can notice a difference vs. playing against the computer. Humans make a lot more judgement errors, for one, and I get a little more satisfaction in knocking another human player off of a bridge than I do against a computer.
I can’t tell if I enjoy the wheel more than the GCN controller or not. I’ve been using it on all the Grand Prix races, and it took some getting used to, but I’m liking it more and more each time.
Yes. So. Online Multiplayer? For those of you who feel like you’re playing against a computer, maybe we can get a conference call going on speakerphone or something
I *hated * Double Dash. I also much prefer the Wiimote and nunchuk over the wheel, even though it seems that the nunchuk turns the wrong direction on power slides on rare occasions.
I’m a little over halfway on the 150 class.
I’ve been more occupied with No More Heroes over the last couple days, but I sat down with Mario Kart just now for a little while. I was getting pissed off at the game, but after a bit of thought I switched from Mario to Donkey Kong. DK fits my capabilities far better, and suddenly I was winning races right and left, which is only fitting on 50cc. I haven’t gotten too deep into bikes yet; I figure I better get good at 50cc first.
How? And for that matter, how do you do a wheelie? The booklet says pull back on the wheel but that isn’t working for me.
Wha, how? I “beat the game” on 150cc and the only thing I’ve unlocked (besides all the tracks obviously) is Rosalina. How do I start unlocking new characters and how do I unlock the new circuits for 50cc and 100cc?
A quick mention of something upthread: “Broken” in some games (M:tG is where I learned it) refers to an item/card/mechanic/attack/etc that is overpowered and/or throws off game balance
