marketing food ideas

Is there anyone here who has ever worked in the food manufacturing industry or who has successfully marketed a food idea?

Here’s a brief synopsis: I have made something at home which was a relative hit with my child—let’s call it YummyStuff. Other parents I have talked to have said that they think YummyStuff is a good idea, that they would feed it to their own kids, and that I should try marketing it, as it at least seems fairly original. What would I do now? Bear in mind that I am clueless about all aspects of this.

I realize that this is a longshot, of course. But so were Mrs. Field’s cookies at one time, right? Who knows.

Thanks.

Here’s some not-terribly-helpful advice:

A couple friends of mine came up with some doggie treats. They baked them, designed the packaging and tried showing them to local food distributors to be picked up. No good and they gave up on it.

I’d find one a local food distributers and call them, asking for advice. I’d imagine that you need heath department certification if nothing else.
