Marley--here we go again.

Not a fan of Charlie Brown?

What, you think Marley is a fucking hall monitor?

Actually, I didn’t get it until after I posted.

You assume everyone agrees with your interpretation of the First Amendment.

Well, if they don’t, then they’re obviously stupid. Not really up for debate, is it?

This is the rules forum. If the two of you want to argue with Oakminster about the First Amendment, start a thread in Great Debates- or in the Elections thread, although those posts are days old and the conversation has moved on.

How would a discussion of whether a proposal violates the First Amendment be a hijack of a thread discussing various proposals for a platform? Can there be no discussion of the merits of a proposal? That seems a ridiculously narrow topic. “Everybody list whatever dumb idea you want, but nobody dare actually talk abut the merits of the idea”

Not that I’d necessarily participate. Once I get a completely unwarranted and unjustifiable mod note, I typically abandon the thread it was issued in, as you well know.

You’re right, the instruction was a little too vague. I’ll tweak it. However I had noticed that you have not posted in that thread in a couple of days, which would make it kind of pointless for YogSosoth to respond at this stage.

I had no idea.

You asked me earlier why these things piss me off. That’s a large part of the reason. Once you issue notes/instructions/whatever, I’m pretty much out of the thread. I’m not going to risk an actual warning, so you “win” by using your mod powers to silence an opposing opinion.

That’s not me silencing you. That’s you silencing you.

I believe the point is to get you to present your opinion in a non-confrontational way rather than to not present your opinion at all. You know who else had trouble with presenting opinions in a non-confrontational way? Collunsbury, and you’re coming off as a passive-aggressive version here.

To be fair you didn’t think the mod note was “unwarranted and unjustifiable.”

Oak, supporting Democrats hardly means one is a liberal.

Quin is lots of things, but he’s no liberal.

Nor is WillFarnaby. Still.

This is my last post on this subject, since I probably should’ve quit two or three pages ago: the mod note was intended to discourage the “boo hiss” and credential commentary, which struck me as obnoxious. They were snide and likely to take the thread in a more personal direction (noting that silenus later said he was not bothered by the question he was asked). They were not intended to stop Oakminster from posting in the thread, nor did I expect that would be the result. I had no clue that was Oakminster’s process, and it’s an entirely unnecessary reaction to mod notes. Unless I say “stop posting in this thread,” which I rarely do, mod notes or warnings are never intended to get a poster to stop posting in a thread. I write them to get posters to stop specific behaviors and I already described what that behavior was and why I instructed Oakminster to stop, and I felt I was pretty generous in saying only the “boo hiss” and the teacher/Con Law stuff needed to stop and not addressing two-word rejoinders like “First Amendment/First Amendment.” I actually tried to go out of my way to say "you can continue to participate here, but stop saying things like “Boo hiss.” Oakminster has been here for years with no warnings and isn’t the type to ignore mod instructions in general; if he continued posting in threads after getting mod notes, I expect he’d still wouldn’t have any warnings because he’d pay attention to the text of the mod notes.

Aw, come on. I was figuring that if this tempest got any bigger I could take the teapot around to carnivals and charge two bucks a head to see it.

Not a dollar and a half?

Oh, wait, that’s trees.

And you have to have paved paradise first, too.

Harrumph. I still disagree with the notes being given, but I’ll accept the explanation for the motivation at face value, and I appreciate the kind words at the end.

I am many things. One of those things is man enough to apologize when I’ve been an asshole. And I have been an asshole to you lately. I’m sorry, Marley.

Alright, who’s the wiseguy that hacked his account? :dubious:
