Oh the Irony

I love how mods can attack posters and call them insulting names here then send warnings of banishment for less obnoxious behavior. Yes ‘love’ is used sarcastically.

Just saying.

I’m going to split this post from this topic and move it over to ATMB.

OP: Cool story bro.

The mod note clearly described your inappropriate conduct, and did not call you any names.

The terms ‘jerkish’ and ‘threadshitting’ are references to specific kinds of non-permitted behaviour here - they’re not personal insults, they’re part of the rules. They just happen to have not-particularly-complimentary names (which I suppose is slightly ironic, but not in the sense you mean)

Thanks for clarifying that.

Here is the thread in question.

** Idle Thoughts** was correct in both cases of threadshitting and jerkish behaviour.
For you to attack the OP and suggest that they

is insulting not only to Lumpy but all participants of that thread.
Secondly, the situation described by the OP is extremely personal, sad, stressful, and life-altering decision for anyone who may be facing the similar circumstances in their own life. Show some respect and compassion.

I find the poll itself fascinating due to the different opinions, personal stories, beliefs, etc. and it looks to be another potential topic for Great Debates.

IIRC when you wandered into that Quasi thread a few days ago the same thing happened. Maybe you should just stay out of those threads.

I was going to ask which part of the OP actually demonstrated the irony mentioned in the thread title, but I’m seeing it now.

For future reference, just look for the bit that’s like rain on your wedding day.

cynyc, you’ve gotten two warnings in ten days. For each, you came to ATMB looking for sympathy – for each, you were told, by other posters, “Nope, you definitely deserved that warning.”

You may find another message board elsewhere more to your liking, if our expectations for civility are burdensome to you. In any case, a third warning here in the near future will bring your SDMB career to an end.

twickster, for the SDMB

This is one of those cases where the OP is simply wrong, and no amount of hair splitting is going to make him come out looking right. The thing is, there was a nice way of suggesting the OP in that thread spend some time with terminally ill children. But he didn’t go that route.

Some advice for the OP. Before you hit the submit button, think about what you just wrote. Would you say something like that to Tony Saprano’s face? If you wouldn’t, then don’t hit submit.

There is a line between “being honest but not particularly pleasant” and just being a jerk. Apparently the OP has trouble with that, therefore the OP needs to exert extra caution regarding these sorta things (and no I am no big fan of folks that do their best to always dance as close to that line as possible without crossing it…but thats another thread).

You can say anything to Tony as long as you preface it with “with all due respect…”

But ya also gotta end it with “just saying”

And if that doesn’t work you say, “Just breakin’ balls here”. (Careful with that one though, it turned out badly for some!)

How many people try to claim personal insult when it’s only been their behavior-not their person- that’s been described in a less-than-rosy fashion? I’d say too many. Ease up on the defensiveness and amp up on the personal reflection.

He might not like you calling him that either.

Actually, the Tony Sopranos of this world are like family so yes I would say whatever to his face. I guess I’m doomed here.

As for the fine line… Well, it’s a “fine” line. What’s a girl to do?

Please start that other thread.

Cheers.

Yep. You may very well be doomed then. Just saying.
