I don’t think calling that comment childish was out of line. From what I’ve seen, people prefer if I try to be specific and explain what the problem is. I didn’t call the statement moronic until you offered a very silly defense.
The statement of fact is that some people - people right here on this board! - luuuuuurrrrrrve Obama. Now, that was childish, but it was still a statement of fact, was it not?
It read like the transcript of a sixth-grade classroom, in which a class clown sasses back to the teacher until he’s ordered to the principal’s office and then immediately begins howling “what did I do?”
Erm…my comment was a baseball metaphor, and you’re not interested in playing games? Perhaps you wouldn’t understand my explanation anyway? Oh, to hell with it… I’ll spell it out for you and anyone else who is curious — What was the question again?
Yeah well, vigilante justice ain’t what it used to be. Do you have any idea how much paperwork it takes to but together an unruly mob these days? You gotta get a parade permit, then you have to pay a fire marshal to supervise the torches, and cops to secure the route, and insurance, and then part of the mob is gonna bitch about not using environmentally friendly pitchforks, and then you have to pay for the clean up…it’s really a hassle.
“But it’s true!” does not work as a defense for insults. And yes, Obama is still pretty popular here, but that isn’t a response to the facts of the case being discussed. Your didn’t say Obama is popular. You chose to make a much more insulting comment that meant “you people are too thoughtlessly devoted to Obama to think about this situation objectively.”
Thanks, Marley, for the cites. Judge’s opinion: no foul on Marley.

Since when did “straight-talkin’” come to mean “using graphic metaphors”?

Judge’s ruling: aimed at post, not poster. So “not”.
At least he wasn’t using his tongue.

Yeah, Oak, I admit you have been vocal in supporting mods when you think they are right, not just calling them out when you think they are wrong. ivan astikov said:
So where are the pictures? Wait, nevermind, I do not wish to see pictures of people’s tongues up Obama’s ass. Or Obama’s ass without tongues.
It’s not a statement of fact, it’s a fucking metaphor (well, a licking metaphor, anyway). What are you trying so say? That people are too busy trying to flatter Obama to see what he’s doing, or something? (I don’t know why people would be trying to flatter Obama on a website he’s probably never heard of. How’s that going to do them any good?)
"A metaphor is an analogy between two objects or ideas; the analogy is conveyed by the use of a metaphorical word in place of some other word"
What is it a metaphor off? What is the other side of your analogy?

Should anal tongue reaming (tongueual anus reaming? ) become a common form of moderation, we should all breath a [del]large[/del] lengthy sigh of relief that Giraffe is retired!
Frankly, I don’t particularly care what happened with ivan at all (except that it showed you were acting in your capacity as moderator in the thread too). What I noticed was more the potshots at the birthers that were ignored. This is (or used to be, or should be) a place to debate ideas and beliefs. We have a place to attack other people, and that isn’t it.
(note: most/all of those posts had more to them, but I don’t think I’ve taken anything out of context so much as to change their meaning. If I have, I apologize in advance – frankly I got tired of rereading the thread after the first couple pages)

Of course, that got a note with a literal wink wink, nudge nudge, so I guess that balances.
I’m not saying “This was a terrible job of moderating and you should step down immediately!” I’m saying that letting these zings go by, interspersed with your posts-as-poster, and then smacking ivan down in 15 minutes, or the frequent correcting of Don’s copyright infringement, seems a little one-sided. And not even so much that you were trying to advantage your side by deliberately letting things slide, more that maybe some posts unconsciously get a little more leeway or get interpreted a little more favorably. Everybody does it, most of us don’t have any weight behind it when we do (or don’t, as the case may be).
Though I notice upon closer reading that Tom posted as a mod in there too, so maybe he looked at the stuff and decided it wasn’t a problem. I don’t know.
Just a thought I had while reading the thread earlier.
