Marmite is good. Cheese is good.

So bring them together.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present Marmite cheddar.

I have just finished a packet. They are divine.

My wife, when I offered her one, remarked: “I like ice cream. I also like sausages. And yet… I think you understand what I’m saying.”

Whereas I think sausage-flavoured ice cream would be amazing. Anyone else got any weird combination manufactured products they’d care to tittilate with? Wasabi chocolate? Onion bananas?

The world is doomed.

And not just because of my wasabi-mint ice cream. (Hey, they’re both green, so it should work, right?)

I’m sorry, you lost me at “marmite is good.”

A good portion of Ben & Jerrys to me seemed like it had no earthly right to be as tasty as it is. Especially Chubby Hubby.

I like Green Tea cake and ice cream too. And mushroom pineapple pizza.

I was going to Tesco tomorrow, but I’ll swing round Asda instead as they are one of the stockists. Mmmm. Sounds really good.

Paging Heston Blumenthal! Mr Blumenthal to the courtesy phone…

You might not believe me, but that’s almost exactly what I replied to mrs jjimm!

Hmm, those marmitey little cheeses do sound quite good. I got some nice mature cheddar yesterday. I have no Marmite. Hmmm. And although I could promise myself to go and buy some tomorrow, given that the shop will be full of mad christmas people and their screechy offspring, I say no, no, no, I won’t go, go, go. Perhaps Tesco might be safe to visit on Thursday or Friday.

Oh yes, other odd combinations. Sandwich with cheese and strawberry jam, anyone? (Or raspberry, if you wish: I would not like to be too prescriptivist here).

Slight tangent, also about cheese. My sister-in-law found it very strange that I should sometimes eat digestive biscuits with cheddar. Is that only because she’s originally from the U.S., where they are a bit digestive biccy-challenged, or would everyone else think that weird? Yes, I agree that the digestive biscuits are sweet and I suppose I can’t think of anything else of a savoury nature I would put on them - not, for instance pâté or anything else that can belong with oatcakes or whatever.

All right, I’m thinking now that it is a childish sort of thing to do, and perhaps it IS just me being weird. Opinions sought on that matter, plizz.

That sounds rather good, actually.

While we’re on the subject of sort-of-malty-spicyish things, if anyone can tell me where to find Twiglets in North America I will love you forever. Or at least until I finish the bag.

Ham and jam and cheese sandwiches were a special treat my mom and I would have when dad was out of town.

One night for supper we had pork chops, some vegetable and popcorn as the starch. Mom did slightly strange things when dad was out of town.

My co worker puts peanut butter and jam in her oatmeal. I wouldnt because the smell of peanut butter makes me have flashbacks of having a migrane while on a car trip, without Gravol or any other remedy for hundreds of miles.

I absolutely love anything that is both chocolatey and salty at the same time. Yummm

Did you send some to Qadgop?

A combination made in Epicurean Heaven!

Tried Bacon Cheese and Marmite? (so the hot bacon melts the cheese)

Brought up on them. My (Caribbean) grandmother claimed they were exclusively Caribbean. Yet my Irish ex-in-laws claimed they were exclusively Irish. And here’s a Scot telling me about them. I think they’re actually everybody’s dirty little secret. And they’re lovely.

My complaint about the Marmite cheese is that it doesn’t have enough Marmite in it. It’s mottled brown and smells the part, but that vicious tang is missing. I could have spread more Marmite on them, but that would have defeated the point. They’re still damn good though.

I also like bananas and bacon, by the way.

Sausage and marmalade sandwiches. Trust me.

Were you that kid on Jim’ll Fix It who went to the Ritz and ordered them on room service? 'Coz that episode prompted me to try them, and they are indeed fantastic. I’ve had them many times since.

No. Jimmy Saville has always scared me. I started eating them after a friend served me marmalade glazed sausages at a party. Best done with that really bitter dark marmalade and nice meaty butcher’s sausages.

Peanut Butter and Banana - nice!!

We grew up with Bovril and Cheese sandwiches - I know it’s considered heresy in some parts of the world to spread Bovril on bread, but we never knew any better…

Grim

Our local grocery stores sells these

For a little while, recently, Bovril and Marmite were pretty much the same thing - they took out the beef extract and replaced it with more yeast extract - the label even said ‘suitable for vegetarians’.

I think they’ve restored sanity now though.

My local deli has a cheddar with chives & pickled onions mixed in. It’s like an all-in-one plowmans.

I grew up with Marmite and Cheese sarnies. And marmite-flavoured cheese wedges were popular when I was growing (along with pineapple cheese wedges).

My christmas favourite is fruit mince pies with cheese - the stronger the cheese the better. My mum said it was a Yorkshire tradition, but no-one else I have ever talked to seem to do it.

Si

My mum used to spread Marmite on the toast when making cheese on toast.

Actually, that’s one of my earliest memories - eating marmite and cheese toast fingers and complaining that the marmite made my teeth itch - it was before I was 3 and I think my gums might have been sensitive with teething.
