I just went and saw the movie “Roving Mars” on the IMAX screen yesterday. Wow! It was totally amazing. The film is only about 45 minutes long. You can see the trailer and explore the official website here. This movie is a must-see for space enthusiasts and nerds everywhere. I highly recommend it. It has lots of interesting information about the design and testing of the Rovers and the details of the flight and landing as well as the actual exploration. I actually cried when the first Rover landed on Mars. One of the things that struck me about seeing this movie is that it is a documentary talking about space flight and exploring Mars, and it is all real and actually happening! It makes me proud of the human race.
Let me tell you, the first big shot of Mars from the viewpoint of the Rover on the huge IMAX screen hit me like a hammer. The shots of the “blueberries” were incredible compared to the photographs you find on websites. One of the scientists was talking about seeing the blueberries for the first time and the feeling of seeing something never before seen on earth, a geological wonder to mankind. As someone who has always loved the idea of mankind exploring the solar system and the universe, this movie really meant a lot to me.
