Meh - if I’m wrong, I’m wrong. Won’t be the first (or last) time. Although I’d be mighty interested to know how I could be wrong 'cause it sure seems cut and dry to me.
Anyway, my initial offer was a $10 donation to the charity of the winner’s choice; I’m more than happy to do that instead. Although if Joel wants to stick to the original bet it’s not like I can force him to do otherwise…
The person is checking on a certain detail for a more complete explanation of the answer.
I haven’t gotten the person’s permission to share the fact what we have discussed.
I’d rather that no one leave the SDMB over this sort of silly thing.

in re:
1, the request was for “some time” to confirm the person’s theory about what the extraneous bit of data was actually for
2, I suspect that this person realizes that I may well choose to share the info. Also, the disclaimer at the bottom of some SPD e-mails says
“PLEASE NOTE: Florida has a very broad public records law. Any written communication to or from City officials regarding City business is a public record available to the public and media upon request. Your e-mail communications may be subject to public disclosures.”
But I haven’t explicitly asked yet. I think it would be more polite to ask than not.
3, I’ll wait until the other two conditions are fulfilled until I decide to stop waiting on this one. There’re similar discussions in other MB which I am involved in. So I’ll probably do it all at once.
You are making up a lot of stuff I didn’t say. To summarize everything you just said is a lie.
I said that the timestamp is entered at the start of the transaction not when it is complete. I never accused the anybody of altering the records.
I find highly unlikely that an English Poster has detailed information and American Computer Aided Dispatch systems.
I’ve worked as a computer programmer since the seventies and it looks to me like the computer software was designed in the eighties. It was probably updated for Y2K, since the date is 4 digits. There were probably also updates for the wireless system and for terminals in the squad cars and also for the Enhanced 911 system.
Another thing is that the 911 center is actually operated by the Seminole County Sheriffs Department. Sanford, Florida doesn’t have their own Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). I assume the Sanford police department has some of remote access, but they may not be able to access it on their PCs. The officers may have to manually enter the report numbers when they enter their reports.
I liked the diagram. Tandem actually seems to refer to Tandem Computers, which was big on Wireless 911 systems in the nineties. The company got bought out by HP and doesn’t actually exist anymore.
I would love to see Doris Singleton’s statement, because she can’t be happy about a bunch of people saying she is a screwup, but the Sanford Police Chief (interim), probably has a gag order on everybody on this case.
Did you call Dina Walker’s office directly? I agree you probably won’t get a rational response until after the new year. If you can’t get an answer. At least you might find the name of the software they use.
I got an answer as to which of the time stamps represents the start time of the recording.
The person is just double checking what the other time means for a fuller explanation.
Doesn’t seem much point in waiting, since any further info probably isn’t going to change the outcome of the bet. Joel doesn’t want to change the bet, probably since it looks like he’s going to win; but such is life. Might as well put me out of my misery and give Joel an early Xmas present <g>
Interesting - so the prosecution’s theory is that the timestamp for when the call connected is cleverly and secretly labeled…‘connection’. Fascinating.
Joel, if you want I’ll allow you to make one final ‘farewell’ post.
Great! While you’re at it, ask them if their dispatchers can tell the future, or how it is otherwise possible for a converstation to start at 19:11:12, have the suspect ‘running away’ approx. 2 minutes and 10 seconds into the phone call, but the dispatcher was able to enter that information at 19:11:59, or barely 45 seconds into the conversation.
I talked to Dina Walker who is in charge of 911 for Seminole County. She said that I should talk to Mona Rumph at the Seminole County Sheriff Communication Department. I called them and they should she should be in this afternoon.
I also called the Sanford Police Department and left a message for Doris Singleton. She is supposed to be in tomorrow.
I will let her know that Dragonash thinks she screwed up.
Iirc, I already discussed that a moment ago.
I would be happy to name the person after I get explicit permission. As I noted earlier, that seems the polite way to go about it. After all, cooperation in this way about this matter isn’t required. So, in my eyes, it’s a favor being granted to me.
ymmv.
see post #9202
Or are you merely trying to imply that I am intentionally misrepresenting facts?
Just curious.
As I pointed out to you, the city of Sanford doesn’t have a Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). There is no reason to suspect that some random person at the Sanford would actually know the answer. I actually talked to Dina Walker, who’s in charge of the 911 system for Seminole County, who didn’t try to bullshit me and told me who I needed to talk to.
I think there are circumstances when a call is put on hold, that people need to know when the call was actually placed.
