Marvel/Wolverine experts, help needed

I am trying to find/identify an incredible picture of Wolverine from a comic about twenty years ago (mid-late eighties).

It was either a cover or a full page panel.

Wolverine had been ‘bonded’(?) with Venom or a similar symbiote, and was fighting the transformation/occupation. The picture showed him angled from above, on his knees, fists clenched (facing up on knees), claws extended, yellow/black uniform mostly there but very tattered (ripped muscles/ribs showing through), head thrown back in anguish with jaw hyper-extended and shark-like row(s?) of needly teeth. He looks like he has been thru hell and is fighting going deeper.

I think this was 85-90ish, although it could have been early 90s, and of course that’s just when I saw it, may have been produced at any point previous, although I think it was current then.

I’ve exhausted my google-image-fu with my limited knowledge of comic books. This artwork was incredible, the kind that just rivots your attention and makes you stare. I wasn’t even in to comics, but a friend showed me this and I’ve never forgotten (or found it) since. That friend has passed away now, and I don’t know any other comic gurus that would remember that era, so I thought I’d ask here.

Any help even identifying the likely artist or series/storyline, etc. also appreciated.

Thanks!

The Brood maybe? There’s this figure for sale on eBay…I remember reading an X-Men/Brood storyline. Aha…found the storyline I read here. Perhaps closer to your timeline, there is also this collection.

Uncanny X-Men #232-234 (1988)- Brood Invasion! was most definitely it, and 1988 is perfect in my timeline.

The picture inside was more similar to the figurine than the cover (head was definitely back, screaming at sky pose)…so I may have to buy that issue to get the picture I’m after, but I couldn’t have found it w/o ya, fiddlesticks. As your link says “Issue #234> (featured above) has that sweet money shot of Wolverine battling against his alien infection…”

You rock! My eternal gratitude. (actually cash value 1/32 of a cent) Thanks!!!

[edit]Ah, I was beaten. Should’ve read the thread. /
Here ya go, bub:

CGC label says that the cover was done by Silvestri and Green.

Got it from this auction:

There’s only two things certain in this world, bub, and this ain’t taxes. SNIKT

I re-read that arc about a year ago, and I don’t particularly remember a similar pose inside the issue – I think probably the cover is what you were thinking of. But maybe I’m mistaken.

Wolverine has a lot of veins in his neck.

Why was that auction $55 and the buy it now here is $5? (I don’t know anything about comics, so pardon the dumb question…I just want the one pic from the interior lol.)

Cliffy- could be…twere 20 yrs ago I last saw it, and there were a lot of chemicals in my brain back then…

Thanks, everybody!

Because that one is quality rated, which raises its value (which also includes the cost of the evaluation).

Munch- ah, makes sense.

Cliffy- I remember that panel too (death&taxes)…he was coming up through a wooden stage/platform. Classic, gave me goosebumps.
