After five episodes, the show is finally starting to see some forward momentum.
We got the commando’s, who even Dougan thinks she has gotten boring, man cant even enjoy a good stogie without big nanny tossing it away.
Mainly this episode in my opinion, finally shows Peggy in her proper element. Your forced to see her first and foremost as a warrior. Some poignant moments about the war , and makes mean girls look like a kindergarten spat.
I liked the part where she had seen a one-time pad in England years ago, so that gave her the ability to decrypt every other one-time pad as fast as she could read the code.
I think the writers didn’t quite get the “one-time” part.
I thought the scene of Peggy in the locker room in her “underwear” was pretty funny. She was wearing more than the average woman walking down the street in Manhattan these days (in summer at least).
The full story is finally beginning to come together. Leviathan is the agency that creates the Black Widows, who committed some kind of atrocity at Finow, and are currently stealing and using Stark’s technology. Stark got in a fight with a general after Finow - I’m guessing the general wanted to collect & use whatever biotech they found in the remains, but Stark was firmly against it?
Makes you wonder about that whole Bletchley Park crowd. Sure, they all talked about how much work they did breaking the Enigma code every day but apparently it was actually quite easy. I imagine the German transmissions came in, Alan Turing and his buddies just handed them off to a secretary and told her to decode them, and then they took the afternoon off and went out clubbing. The next morning, they’d bring the decoded messages to Churchill and claim they’d been up all night working on them. Quite the scam.
The whole series of events in this episode read like a set-up. SSR intercepts a coded message from captured equipment that suggests Howard Stark really is as guilty as they think he is. When they follow up on the convenient coordinates, they waltz into an underdefended base with one murder girl and a handful of guards who only show up after they conveniently rescue the only two prisoners in the place. One of whom conveniently shoots the other, thereby ingratiating himself with his rescuers.
And if that easily-uncoded message was for a Leviathan operative, why give coordinates for the rendezvous point at a Leviathan base? A message to an actual Leviathan operative would’ve just said “send the check to the Red Room”.
Although there is precedent for characters looking much younger than they should, Natasha’s birthday shows up in The Winter Soldier on a document that appears on screen. She was born 198-something. It’s a SHIELD file, so one would assume it to be accurate.
Carter has a line of dialogue mentioning that it’s an obvious set-up but she wants to use the situation to learn whatever she can. It’s not clear if they’re being cautious enough to be suspicious of their convenient rescued guy.
Did anyone else recognize “Nikola” as Svetlana’s husband? I kept wondering how he was going to get back to the St. Petersburg House of Discreet Pleasure.
If Natasha were indeed a child of the 1930’s, we’d see some of that in her rapport with Steve Rogers in Winter Soldier. Why would she hide the fact that she was from “his time”?
I’ll admit I wasn’t really thinking about how old that would make Natasha at this point, but she is a trained operative, etc -
Bucky in Winter soldier still looks pretty young/comparitive to Rogers age - so that fits with the girl being Natasha (assuming experiments with Rogers super soldier serum which is what I think they are setting up with the recovered vial of cap’s blood ).
Inhumans typically have unique powers, with no two having the same power; so it’s unlikely we’ll see another looks-human-immortal Inhuman.
However, Natasha in the MU has been treated with something like the supersoldier serum – she’s got slow aging, improved immune system, improved healing type stuff sort of like Steve Rogers. I just think it’s too much backstory to cram into the Marvel movies, and I don’t see Natasha showing up in Agent Carter/Agents of SHIELD without Scarlett Johansson being involved and I don’t see Scarlett Johansson getting involved with the tv shows.
