Marvel's The Gifted

Episode one premiered last night. I thought it was pretty good. Interesting array of mutant powers and seems to be a good setup for the plot going forward. The cast was fine, although I couldn’t stop seeing Fred whenever Amy Acker was on screen.

Looking forward to the next episode anyway.

was it just heroes redux? or xmen academy on tv?

I think this show has potential as opposed to the Inhumans which was poorly written, acted and plotted. Characters were people you could root for, acting was fine and it moved at a fairly good pace.

Neither.

More of a Underground Railroad feel to it.

Was that Blink and Warpath from days of future past? Edit: I quite enjoyed this, good plot, cool mutants, even the mini sentinels were awesome.

Yeah I think I’m dropping the Inhumans, watched the pilot but don’t feel any anticipation for more episodes. This one I’m already interested in where its going and looking forward to the rest of the season.

Yes, though, different actors for both characters.

There was a scene in a bar in which I noted what looked like a picture of a wolverine on the wall. Nice touch.

Did you notice the x-men cartoon theme ring tone?

I didn’t get to watch the entire thing, but I did see Stan Lee walk out of the TeX Lounge  is the blonde girl supposed to be Shard? I intend to catch up this week.

Stupid wife and her stupid Love & Hip-hop addiction. :smack::mad:

You mean the main girl? No, she and her brother appear to be a very, very changed version of Fenris - though being blond siblings named Strucker (and his first name being Andy) is the only similarity. (Which is a strange choice, since, aside from the fact that comics Fenris are racist villains (and not mutants), Baron Strucker is over on the Marvel side of the divide.)

I noticed the ringtone and got a chuckle but missed the Stan Lee cameo.

It’s also a little “tough” for me to see Amy Acker as a TV mom, maybe we can see her in a Illyria costume in an upcoming ep. Steven Moyer is a decent actor too but when I see him I want to say “Sookie” just like Vampire Bill.

So far I like the mutant characters as well. The Strucker girl was pretty good and convincing in her role; I thought the boy was a little weaker but he’s the catalyst and it will expand from there.

They’re also leaning pretty heavily on the “persecuted mutant” and its metaphors but that’s kind of the whole point of the show. Again, I hope they can expand on this as well. I’m not sure why they’re going with Strucker as a last name unless they are trying to be the Strucker twins. It would be too odd if that was random.

…weirdest choice they could have made naming the family Strucker.
It reeks of someone telling the writers to google “mutant siblings” and they just picked at random without even reading the wikipedia entries.
It is not a common name so clearly they were lazily making a connection.

It is interesting that 3 out of the 4 mutant underground mains are 3 out of the 4 new mutants introduced in the Days of Futures Past movie–well technically 2, but we all know “Marco” is just Sunspot because they couldn’t use Sunspot because of the New Mutants movie.

It wasn’t bad…I’ll keep watching it.

Yes to both of these!! My wife and I both said that about Moyer!

I enjoyed the show and look forward to more. Much better than Inhumans but not sure that’s tough.

Watched about 5 minutes of it. It had an “every damn thing on the CW” feel about it.

The actor who plays Reed is married to Anna Paquin, BTW.

The mutant captured, Lorna Dane, was Polaris. In the X-Men comics I read, she was Magneto’s daughter, and had a long-term relationship with Havok, (Alex Summers, brother of Scott Summers/Cyclops from the X-Men).

I stopped reading comics avidly in the 90s, so that may not be her accurate origin anymore. But I liked the use of the character.

I keep looking for a show to watch that isn’t stupid. I turned this one off after about 5 minutes, when the cops said “We know you’re in there” and started shooting the building full of holes, not caring who else might be in there.

Mutants with superpowers - sure why not
Police not acting 100% to established procedure when chasing said mutants - nope can’t accept it

ok…

Specially when its been established that current mutant laws are a bit draconian in nature, shoot first and ask questions later seems like a fitting response in their world.

Yeah the whole premise is how hunted mutants are in this world and the lengths the authorities are going to capture them. Judging it as if it was happening in the real world as it is right now is pretty silly imho.
