This is very cool: they announced that the Disney+ series What if will have 23 episodes. Each will be an alternate reality take on each of the 23 MCU films.
They already previously announced the first episode would be What if Agent Carter got the Super Serum instead of Steve Rogers so I guess they may be going in Chronological order vs. release order.
It might be interesting depending on how many MC characters they can get a hold of. I can’t help noticing that even in other TV series which are supposed to have ties to the MCU they mention MCU characters vary rarely.
Though, if you’re talking about series like Jessica Jones and Daredevil, those were on Netflix, which may have had limitations in how many MCU names they could use.
This new series will be on Disney+, and they should, in theory, have access to everything in the MCU.
Yeah, the big problem was that the Netflix shows and Agents of SHIELD were made by Marvel Television. They could only do so much because they didn’t really know where the MCU was going to go and couldn’t line up with it. The Disney+ shows will be made by Marvel Studios, so Kevin Feige will be in control. WandaVision, for example, is supposed to directly tie into the next Dr. Strange movie.
It was that way for the first few years. I think it was to reinforce the idea that Marvel was doing it the right way when it came to story telling, so that any variation on what they originally told just had to have a worse outcome.
