Huh. A friend of mine claimed to smoke with her in the late 1980s, and I was never sure whether to believe him. Guess I do now.

I’d have believed it as soon as I learn she has a WigWam acting camp in Idaho (quite true- web site’s down at the moment, but you can get to it through dawnwells.com).

In case anybody else was wondering, that story here.
What had to really hurt was that she wasn’t identified as “Jan Smithers, bka Bailey Quarters from WKRP” in the opening sentence but as

Yeesh. I thought she was a recluse somewhere in Canada.

I met her a couple times here in Florida, must have been around '79-'80. She was very nice, not as saccharine as Mary Ann, but pleasant and not full of herself. She never asked me to smoke with her though.
Sorry to say, but I think the OP screwed the pooch with the thread title. Mary Ann Caught With Mary Jane was staring you right in the face; you need to get in touch with your inner New York Post.
Also, Mary Ann > Ginger, and it’s not even close.

and the picture was Brolin! What, no Streisand pictures available?
If I were Dawn Wells’s agent I think I could ride this publicity into a guest shot on Desperate Housewives or some similar show. (Is Weeds still on and has Mary Louise Parker’s character’s mother ever been shown? If so and if not there’s a shoe-in there.)
Damn, foolishly I thought Gilligan only wrecked every escape on purpose as he was actually growing weed and enjoying secret tryst with Mary Ann. This makes so much more sense.
In the final disposition of the case, she isn’t doing time for marijuana, but for reckless drviing. The charge for cannabis was dropped in the bargain.
