Barbara Eden wasn’t in it, but one CBS celebrity apparently was (I didn’t recognize him, so I don’t know if it was-but it probably was): the military man who informs Sherwood Schwartz that some soldiers believe Gilligan’s Island actually exists was apparently Rodger “Kentucky Joe” Bingham of Survivor: The Australian Outback.
Dawn Wells must have been referring to the final Gilligan movie, “The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island,” made in 1981, when they said Natalie Schafer was in her 80s. IIRC, Schafer died in 1991, at age 91, thus she would have been 63-67 years of age when making the original show, and 81 when the final reunion movie was made.
Or it could have been a misspoken line that made it into the final print.
Trivia:
Elroy (Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz certainly knew how to pick names for their sons) Schwartz is now suing his older brother Sherwood, saying that he and his writing partner actually wrote the pilot script of “Gilligan’s Island,” based on a hazy outline provided by Sherwood, and gave him writing credit as a courtesy (apparently this was done a lot in the 60s–a writer named Gilbert ??? claims he actually created “The Wild Wild West” from Michael Garrison’s simple concept of “James Bond in he Old West,” but gave Garrison the creator credit as “it was the way things worked in those days,” or something like that).
Dawn Wells was born in 1938, making her 63 this year. Tina Louise is about that age, maybe a few years older, as is Bob Denver, I believe, and Russell Johnson will be 77 next month.
As a kid, somehow, I was exposed to “Dusty’s Trail” before “GI” and for the longest thought “GI” was a knock-off of “DT” and not the reverse.
