Mary Tyler Moore is ONLY 66?!?!?!?!?

I was reading an article about her being booted from a recent Neil Simon play and it said “the 66 year old Moore”…

I said, that has to be a typo she has to be like 90 or something.

Low and behold she’s 66!

I don’t know why I care, I just found that strange.

She’ll be 67 in two weeks.

The Mary Tyler Moore show started in 1970, so that would be 30 years ago. She was supposed to be 30-ish in that series, so this is believable.

Yep, in the tradition of John and Jackie Kennedy, Laura Petrie was a dozen years younger than husband Rob. Such a cute couple.

I think that she was only about 10 years younger.

IMDb says you’re closer, Joel.

Dick Van Dyke
Date of birth
13 December 1925

Mary Tyler Moore
Date of birth
29 December 1936

Ah, so it’s 11 instead of 10, close enough. I just remember watching a show about The Dick Van Dyke Show saying that when it started, Dick was 30 and Mary was 20.

I find it somewhat interesting too, that their birthdays are both in December.

I don’t understand why you guys all think MTM should be 105 years old, or whatever. She was still quite the young babe when The Mary Tyler Moore Show started in 1970.

If she really were 90 she would have been in her late 40s when the Dick Van Dyke show was being made. Have you seen her in that? She looks like a teenager.

I think WE may be fooled by MTM’s extreme skinniness. It makes her look kind of skeletal and older than she is.

But she was a cutie back in her Dick Van Dyke days.

And not too shabby during her “Ohhhhh Mr. Grant!” days.
Although this recent shot makes her look like she’s had some unflattering work done.

Nope, can’t be. There was a two-parter in which Rob and Laura had to get married again because she lied about her age and was 17 when they originally got married.

SInce Ritchie was 6 when the show started, that would make her 24 (assuming they were playing by 1961 tv rules and didn’t sleep together until after the wedding :D).

Of course, it also appears to mean that Laura was a high school dropout who was hanging around army bases when she was still jailbait. Hmm, maybe tv was racier in those days than I thought!

As for how gorgeous she was, remember that her first tv role was the answering service lady on Richard Diamond: Private Detective where the gimmick was that we never saw her face, just heard her sultry voice and saw her amazing legs.

Yeah, I think jailbait/shotgun marriages used to be more humorous than they are now? I’m really not being sarcastic when I ask why?
