Masochistic song ID

I say masochistic because the song has the worst beginning. In all cosmos.
Heard it once, on the radio, maybe 45 years ago.
IIVaguelyRC - a very sparse sounding beginning (instrumentally) with these beyond-absolutely-god-awful vocals warbling on about “On the re-bound!… On the re-bound!
I can’t remember, at all, what the rest of the song was like (late '70s R+B pop?), so I can’t provide much more to help locate this.
Just the beginning.
(On-ly the be-gi-ning…)
I need to find this abomination, to put a name to it, to put a name to the beacon, the talisman, of untethered mediocrity, of soul-destroying musical lameness and ass-goblinage.
IT musty be located. To be forever exorcised.
:peace_symbol: peace, duly :peace_symbol:

Well there’s a song called On the Rebound by Uriah Heep. Not quite 45-years-old, though. Seems to match other parts of your description.

Good try - I’m pretty sure the “OTR” line is sung only twice, to kick the song off, and never again in the song.
It’s defintely not a chorus, like UH had.
Yeah, it has more of an insipid, depressing, pedestrian UGH-ness to it; UH’s was too rockin’.
The vocalist, I think but am most likely wrong, was a Black woman, the more I (yes, masochistically) run it through my increasingly beleaguered mind.

Maybe it was the original…

Wow - that’s exactly the beginning, I’m pretty sure.
This means I mis-remembered the rest of the song to the point that it does mention “OTR” many times throughout the rest of the song, and not just in the beginning.
So I guess it was more of a rocking thing then. :man_facepalming:
And yes, that horrifyingly execrable twang in that vocal. It’s all coming back. In floods. Puke-laden ones.
Thank-you, for not only locating IT but also setting me straight on how it actually went.
I can now move forward, the closure most gratifying.

You sure it’s not this one?
