How do masochists- people who periodically deliberately seek out pain, or who are even sexually aroused by being in pain- regard pain from accidental or incidental sources? Do female masochists enjoy going into labor? Do masochists who break their leg skiing like it? Or is their masochism psychological, in that they want to be punished or abused, and purely accidental pain doesn’t fullfill that?
I would be pretty confident that it is the latter.
Heck, I do not aroused every time my penis rubs against the inside of my pants. All sex stuff depends upon the psychological context.
I’ve heard it said before that “if I drop something on my foot I go ‘ouch’ like anyone else.” People who are sexually aroused tend to experience pain differently.
Not every masochist is the same. But for the ones I’ve known, the source of the pain is not only the most important thing . . . it’s the only thing. It’s the connection with the Sadist that’s important, the knowledge that the pain is coming from this person they’ve put all of their trust in. And it works the same way for the Sadist. Seeing his partner in pain is not gratifying the way that ***causing ***the pain is.
(Yes, I have a little experience with this. :))
You have Vanilla person, incidentally named Vanilla. Vanilla enjoys having sex with men. One day Vanilla is compelled to have sex sans consent, in other words Vanilla is raped. Do you think Vanilla enjoyed it?
There’s a little bit of a difference between stubbing your toe and being raped…
Edit: This seems like one of those things no one should have to spell out.
I’m not very much of a masochist, so this isn’t speaking from personal experience, but part of it depends on the kind of pain. One blog I read, the author twisted her ankle (or something like that). Apparently it was just the right kind of pain because she was finding it very distracting.
But generally the pain is part of doing things (which may or may not involve a sadist or another person at all), and the doing things is what makes it fun. And generally you don’t start with something that HURTS, but build up to it - so it would’ve hurt if you had done it first, but by the time you do it everything feels good.
So, in short, no, incidental pain is not fun.
For me it all depends on the context.
Incidental pain does nothing for me.
Depends on what kind of pain, but the only incidental pain I can think of that I actually found to be a bit of a turn on was getting my tattoo. I could have sat there all day.
I was once so drunk that I let my friend give me stitches (in my elbow) on his kitchen counter because I didn’t want to waste a good buzz on a trip to the ER. I giggled madly through the entire procedure. My friend later asked if I enjoyed it. Drunkenly, I giggled “Yeessss…” and fell into another hysterical laughing fit. I guess when I was hammered, it struck me as really, really funny that something that should have been horribly painful, I couldn’t feel at all. It should have hurt, but I was that alcohol-anesthetized. Having him remove the stitches a week or so later – not quite as drunk that time – was not enjoyable at all.
I probably would have been a cutter in high school had it occurred to me to try it.
