Mass Casualty Shooting at a nightclub in Orlando.

And now it’s revealed that the shooter had publicly announced his support for ISIS.

Ain’t this a fun day?

No Way To Prevent This, Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens.

Despite accusations, I’m not going to turn this into yet another pointless gun debate. In this case… a powerful, high rate-of-fire weapon was what killed 50 people and injured (probably with more fatalities to come) another 50+. Maybe you can rationalize why such weapons are allowed in Joe Citz’ hands without the slightest real need or justification, but I don’t really care to hear the argument.

I don’t like this called the worst mass shooting in US history ! This is making light of all the other mass shooting we had ! This has the largest number of people of killed . Every mass shooting was tragic and horrible no matter how many innocent people were killed in cold blood !

538 on the analysis of domestic terrorist types.

That’s nice. But ignores a large of the world and recent history. I’d take a few random shootings over Germany’s ovens or Stalin’s gulags. I hear in Mexico that the cartels are quite ruthless. Might be able to see some of their handiwork if not squeamish and can find a gore site. Violent crime either individual or state sanctioned is not unique to the US.

Yeah, cute. What about the 130 people killed by ISIS at the nightclub shooting in Paris 8 months ago? Are France’s gun laws too lax?

I agree, but the media can’t fart without finding superlatives to describe it. That’s what happens when news coverage is a gang fight among thousands.

Did the terrorists in France buy their guns from the local Gunz R Us?

Interesting, but I am not sure it’s a service to differentiate this event as ‘terrorism’, as if that somehow makes the casualties worse or unworse or whatever.

Many of these events from Whitman on fit the definition of terrorism, but most come down to one loon (whether chemical, biological or theological) who decides to load up and mow down. Even the ones that describe themselves as terrorists are just nutbags with delusions any real movement would let them within a mile of a real cadre.

Quick, list the American “terrorists” who were anything but solo loons or a pair of reinforcing loons, no matter which snake-ridden flag they claimed to uphold?

Thats the problem with trying to differentiate between hate crime and terrorism. I think it quite likely that Islamic terrorist organizations are outsourcing their terror acts. No longer is an intensive 6 week course on firearms & explosives required. All it takes is bad attitude, nerve and possibly a few clicks on the internet.

No, their guns were illegal. Why, it’s almost as if terrorists intending to shoot up a bunch of innocent people don’t follow the law.

Oh come on! I hold no brief for Trump but that’s a goddam tweet in response to breaking news, not a quasi-Presidential address to the nation.

Isn’t this Gay Pride week too? :frowning:
I know my town was planning on having a lot of gay pride events this week.

Precisely. This has nothing to do with gun laws and everything to do with ISIS who are capable of mounting armed attacks on civilians anywhere in the world, even given the most restrictive gun legislation.

Every time these ISIS creeps commit another atrocity I have to wonder, how do they figure this will help them towards their goal, which is presumably their own recognized nation/caliphate in the ME. As far as I can see it only spurs people to ensure their movement is totally annihilated or at least reduced to insignificance. But then I don’t have the terrorist mindset.

What exactly makes a gun “high-powered”? I keep hearing this phrase, but I have no idea which guns are high-powered and which aren’t.

What is the existential threat to traditional, tribal values?

He just called it an act of terror and an act of hate so that settles that discussion.
