Mass Effect Andromeda comes out in March!

Thanks for the link. It was a better, more informative article than I’ve come to expect, and I would’ve skipped it had you not posted.

Yeah, good article. Given all the problems I suppose the team should be proud they released something that wasn’t a complete Daikatana-level turd.

The ending does rush to tie things up, and leaves threads dangling. Now that we know that we know it parallels the development cycle, it does seem to be a metaphor for itself.

I’m happier with the multiplayer than the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. I play only once a week, if that, but if I play the phone game for free I can generate virtual cash that lets me directly buy Revive packs and heavy weapon ammo, which in Mass Effect 3 you basically had to hope to get from random packs even if you were paying real money. Now they have it so that you can use the phone game bucks to buy random weapon mods. Still random, but you can target what you really need instead of playing the crappier crapshoot.

I’m not moved that much by the new game Anthem. I’ve seen buzz that it’s going to be a Borderlands type loot fest. I like Borderlands because of the quirky Chaotic Neutrality of it all. I lose patience with the Diablo-esque loot-for-loot’s-sake element of the game, but at least it’s humorous and distinct. But people who know say it looks like Destiny, which was already a humorless grindfest. If they gutted the Mass Effect franchise for the sake of Borderlands Without Jokes, that’s a pity.

I liked Andromeda. If it was a brand new franchise, it would be a stand out. The idea of doing Inquisition in Space deserves to be given another shot. But it sounds like there won’t even be DLC. Dragon Age 2 got DLC, and that was a far worse game.

Thanks for the link. That was a fantastic read and really shed a light on the problems. I think it’s telling that the aspects of the game the people like the most (combat, gameplay) were the things done the earliest and easiest.

It also seems like Bioware was semi-crumbling as it is, and it just so happened to happen when Mass Effect was being built, and the poor game got shafted because of it.

So much bad luck all coming together at the same time. Like it’s been said, it’s a wonder the game came out at all.

A sad end to honestly one of my favorite things ever.

Bumping this thread to say that my Prime day purchase was getting the PS4 and ME:A for myself and I’m very early into the game still, but I have some thoughts.

To address the Elcor in the room right away, the animation to me looks like Mass Effect 3. I mean, the ME series has always had shitty animation, so it doesn’t take me out of the game NEARLY as much as people seemed to convince me it would. I can understand the problem with it since this is a new engine and years past ME3. so people expect better, but the best I can describe the animation is perfectly fine.

The characters are fun to delve into. Mass Effect, to me, is ony as good as your supporting characters, and this game has plenty of them. Liam seems a bit too chipper and “happy to be here” so he can get a bit annoying, but I haven’t had a major issue with him so far; Cora is an annoying whiny bitch so far, so screw her; Drax is surprisingly level-headed for a Krogan and seems much more caring than the normal kill 'em all kind of mentality Krogan usually have; Vedra is mah gurl and is the leader in the romance clubhouse for now; PeeBee is fine enough, too. She acts a bit too immature for her age/species, but that’s not too bad either for something different out of an Asari; The doctor, Gil and the new Salarian pilot are nice; I really like my redheaded nav/scientist girl. It’s a very interesting take to have her be religious AND a scientist.

Combat is clearly the best part of the game. I’m using an assault rifle/pistol combo right now, but I’m also loving my flamethrower. I might have to change to a shotgun here soon and get up close and personal…

Mission-wise: A lot of fetch quests and “find this/do that”. But that’s par for the course on games like this. I’m one to do all the little things first to gain experience, and then tackle the major missions. That being said, I’ve completed Eos (made it scientific) and I’m halfway through the two main missions on the jungle planet I keep calling Alfalfa. I look forward to advancing into the game and exploring my crew more.
