Had no idea it was due out so soon. Trailer with some game play here. Looks different but the same.
Looks like they’re ditching classic eh, classes. Skill based with profiles that possibly come with passive enhancements that you can swap in and out.
Sure, I’ll take that.
Just please don’t be another Dragon Age Inquisition!
Is it solo, no support team?
The skill tree does look interesting. Unfortunately I don’t know anything beyond what the video shows. I am hoping it imports my plot threads from past games.
Origin are giving Mass Effect 2 away for free. You just need an Origin account.
There will be a support team. An Asari named PeeBee pops in a bunch, and if you look at the newest gameplay release there’s another name listed.
I’m so excited for this game. Mass Effect is my favorite game series of all time (I say as I’m typing this in my N7 sweatshirt) and is the only game I’ve played over 8 or 9 times.
I really really want there to be some kind of bundle with a new PS4, because I don’t have one yet, but I don’t think there is.
Anyone heard of anything?
It takes place many, many years after the original trilogy (possibly hundreds or thousands of years afterward), so it’s hard to say what, if any, ending to ME3 will be canonical. (Refusal, obviously, will be non-canon, since the video shows humans, turians, asari, and I think krogans).
On top of that, they are supposed to have left the galaxy before the reapers. I think it’s supposed to happen somewhere along the ME2 timeline, but I could be wrong.
So the travelers have no clue about the fate of the Galaxy.
This has definitely been done so as not to have to address anything that went on the original trilogy. I would not expect to be able to bring over anything form the previous games. Tabula Rasa, as it were.
No, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Although EA tends to do this kind of thing with Microsoft more.
I just want competent PC controls with the option for gamepad too this time around.
The story is that relatively early after the First Contact War ended, all the races got together and thought of exploring beyond the milky way. Each race (minus the Quarians, for whatever reason) picked a handful of people to launch to Andromeda. So the ships themselves (Arks) launched during the early bits of the first trilogy, and arrived way way after the 3rds ending, but it’s a (literal) galaxy away, so we’re all separate from it.
Hmmm doesn’t the mass effect universe allow for FTL (in fact instantaneous) communications?
I wonder if we will get to talk to the Milky Way.
I kind of burned out on the ME games after the first 2.3 (I never finished the 3rd). I enjoyed the RPG and exploration of the first game, then kind of ground through the second, and the third was so action-oriented I just couldn’t get into it. I don’t dislike action games, but that’s not what I enjoyed or was looking to get out of this series; it felt like they took the lazy way out and just churned out an action game instead of really giving us the refined space RPG experience the first game promised.
They do, but they still need Comm satellites to relay the messages across the galaxy.
IIRC, one of the earliest moves during one of the wars (Shanxi?) was to target a comm satellite and blow it up/take it over.
I don’t have an expertise in many things in life, but Mass Effect is certainly one of them.
Going solely off of memory (which means if I’m right Imma look really cool…well…“cool”…) The climactic battle of the First Contact War was over a comm station
Huh, are you sure about that? I recall something about yada yada magic, quantum entanglement, and therefore not needing comm relays. You just pick up a comms device with a bunch of entangled electrons and you can then communicate with anyone using another device with their pairs.
I do believe they only use this for communication over very long distances, while using traditional EM comms (I think?) over shorter distances.
EDIT: Now that I think about it, I think what you said is indeed how it works for most people: some type of FTL comms over a network (method of function never explained), and the quantum entanglement comms system I mentioned was a special design for the Normandy so that they could communicate over large distances AND in places where there were no comms arrays.
One detail I would like to carry over that would be relevant in the future story is I was able to thread the needle and create peace between the Geth and Quarians.
I think you’re right on your edited part, but it was only for the third game. Traynor mentioned something about sophisticated entanglement equipment for transmission security and to get it out wherever. Basically it was a way to write off the fact that Anderson could call the ship while in a London bunker somewhere even though you’re in the middle of space.
While doing the “find-some-random-ass-thing-for-someone-in-reaper-space” minigame, you come across comm satellites a lot. One of the first ones you see is one that says the Reapers targeted it right away to hurt communication.
Afraid not - this is a ship that left for another galaxy before the events of ME3.
New gameplay shows a different ability tier.
Apparently you can put points into any thing at any time and can switch classes between missions. Should be an interesting take. Frankly, the only thing I want is what they had in 3 where I could use any gun.
Hated that you couldn’t kill shit in 2 if you chose a biotic-based class because all you had were pistols and SMGs
This new video describing the new ship probably has done the most for getting me excited about the game:
Looking sleek.
This one seems to be a more story-based trailer, and less of an action one.
Still makes me excited!
