Mass Effect Legendary - my thoughts while I play these games (spoilers as I play)

I do think it is Singularity, but the damage was an add-on down the line.

Favorite gun. In this game, it’s the N7 Piranha Assault Shotgun.

I use it with incendiary ammo and its spread catches things on fire in a wide area.

I used assault weapons for most of the games up to ME3, with the best one being the Collector Assault Rifle.

Just wait until you get to the end of the Omega DLC you’re currently on and you have the ability to learn Aria’s Flash move. Having Liara use Singularity and then you using flash to cause a biotic explosion is absolutely devastating. It’s especially handy with the damn Cerberus Guardians.

I have Tali now. And we found Legion.

I took EDI on the mission and she continues to be great. She has a of unique interactions. Even Legion commented on how surprised he was to see her have a body.

If you bring Garrus along on the dreadnought mission, Tali will flirt with him a bit. (Maybe only if Shepard is not in a relationship with Garrus?)

Did a cool mission inside a Geth program. I…am sympathetic to them now.

I have yet to see this or if I did, it was so quick I did not notice. I’ve been in Purgatory a number of times. Or as I call it, “re-fitted Aftermath”.

I just did another amazing mission with powerful scenes. The one delivering the genophage was the first, this one was on the Quarian planet.

Legion died, but was able to help upload to the Geth and free them. They and the Quarians managed to agree to work together. Tali took her mask off for a second, but the game wasted a great opportunity by NOT showing her.

It was all great payoff and everything, but I think the game should have given in and had Tali turn around with her mask off since we managed to return her and the Quarians to their home planet.

Anyway, it was great and I gained both the Geth and the Quarians as Military Strength.

Do a YouTube search on what happens when you don’t do the paragon interrupt and you actually have to choose, and you choose the geth. It’s the worst video on the internet hands down. I did this during my ME3 only playthrough not knowing what would happen…I yelled and restarted the mission.

Agreed, the finale of the krogan and quarian missions are very memorable.

It is definitely not a foregone conclusion to get the geth and quarians to cooperate (for instance, once I skipped the geth server mission because it’s a bit boring the fifth time around). If you side with the geth over the quarians, all the quarians die and Tali kills herself. Ouch.

Sir T-Cups, not sure what you mean by doing a Paragon interrupt; it’s possible to get the geth and quarians to cooperate with either a Paragon or a Renegade speech check, as far as I know.

They forced me to make a “no save” commitment, too. I had to fight off a Reaper and there was no save that I saw and no save opportunity before I got to the decision point.

I decided uploading was right and used my “blue paragon” choice “Rally the Fleet?” to encourage everyone to go along with the plan.

Tali killing herself would be brutal. I was nervous when we landed on the planet and she started picturing where she’ll put her home. Anytime someone makes happy future plans, it always looks like they aren’t going to make it.

ME2’s major flaw is not having Legion in the game earlier. It feels like they mapped out Legion’s ME3 plan late in the ME2 development and realized they needed a Geth in the squad. They shoved him quick into ME2, but it would have been better if he joined much earlier in the game.

Apparently, someone went out and made a cut-scene where Tali shows her face. This is hardly as good as it could have looked in game, but THIS is what we deserved in that moment.

You are correct, but since @Mahaloth is doing a paragon run, I referenced the interrupt that was most likely used.

Tali’s “I’m going to build a home here” arc and conversation are even cuter when you’re romancing her.

“Legion… the answer to your question… was yes.”

The Renegade speech for getting the quarians to back down is pretty salty.

(Paraphrasing) “I saved your ass from the geth at the Citadel and I saved your ass from the geth dreadnought. I’m getting tired of saving your asses. If you want to get killed by the geth now, I’m happy to sit back and watch. Keelah se’lai!”

My reputation meter is filled, by the way. I’d put it at 90-95 Paragon and a little, but real sliver of Renegade down there.

None of that transferred from previous games, which is really surprising if you think about it.

I am well past the “minimum” meter for Military Strength and got an achievement for recruiting everyone(?) or something to the fight. However, I believe there is another faction, the Ansari, that have to be dealt with. A few people in the ship mentioned it.

Some updated thoughts on ME3 at this point. I have about 20 hours in:

  • I was wary and unsure of ME3 at the start. It has grown on me a lot. It’s a celebration of Mass Effect and I see the majority of the game as a long farewell and a well earned one. Many great payoffs.

  • EDI is a gold mine. I have continued to use her, bumping Liara(my romance) off the squad and taking Tali(my favorite other than Miranda) and EDI on everything. EDI had a great miss-able analysis of where the Quarians went wrong. “They made the Geth a communal mind and they were unable to be empathetic to individuals.” Love it.

  • Mass Effect 2 is still better. So character driven with its loyalty missions. It’s hard to beat that and the Normandy setup was the best on that one. They made some changes to Normandy in 3 and I miss my ME2 Normandy. It also feels more empty with a smaller squad. I have whole rooms still empty. I think Life Support and a couple other spots are empty.

  • I thought Cerberus in ME2 was portrayed as having some complexity in terms of their evil and I also though the Illusive man was portrayed as being grey instead of pure evil. This game, at least the 20 hours I’ve played, has doubled down on “Cerberus and the Illusive Man are evil”. If it had been that clear, I never would have given them the Collector vessel at the end of ME2.

  • I did not expect a detailed Geth storyline over these games and they did a great job with it. One of my favorite conflicts has been Quarian vs. Geth.

Getting the geth and the quarians to work together is definitely my favorite feel-good moment of the trilogy, and one that takes the most work to make it happen. IIRC, you have to have Tali and Legion both loyal and have them both survive the suicide mission, you have to do all the sidequests for the quarians before the final mission of that arc, and you have to have done Tali’s loyalty mission without getting her exiled.

You’re almost near endgame at this point. Did you ever pick up Javik? I don’t recall you mentioning him and he’s one of the more interesting characters IMO.

On a side note, while typing this my phone kept autocorrecting “quarians” to “quarantine” and I suddenly realized that that’s where Bioware got the name from.

Remember what spending time in the presence of Reaper tech does to organic minds? It’s pretty clear by this point that the Illusive Man is indoctrinated.

Yes, I got him pretty early. I don’t use him in battle, but I talk to him on the ship. He is clearly “Mr. Eko” from LOST.

He kind of needs a full loyalty mission type thing.

My squad is this. I think it looks pretty full:

Ashley, Liara, Tali, James, EDI, Javik, and Garrus

Make sure you take Liara and Javik with you for the mission on Thessia - it unlocks some very interesting dialogue.

BTW, did you ever reunite Liara with her “father”? It really explains where she gets her attitude from.
