Mass Effect... The Movie.

I have been told that squeeeee is unmanly and improper. So, instead, I will say woot!.

Well, as far as source material goes for video game movies, I guess you can’t do much better.

And, on the plus side, at least they won’t feel the need to create a video game to tie into the movie when it comes out.

Don’t be so sure about that.

Coming soon to XBox, PS3, and PC: Mass Effect: The Movie of the Game: The Game

Do they want to pack the whole trilogy into one movie or focus on the storyline of the first game?

I wonder how they will deal with the alternative routes or what alternatives they are going to choose?
Will Wrex survive Virmire? Who is going to be blown up, Kaidan or Ashley? Might depend on the love interest they are going to choose – unless … but that wouldn’t be Ash.

That’s absolutely absurd.

It’d be called Mass Effect: Evolved.

I really, really hope not. At best we’d get something like Wing Commander, and at worst we’d get something like The Last Air Bender.
Perhaps I should start drinking now…

I wondered that too. Althoughit would be fucking awesome, I don’t think they’ll do a renegade path.

I’d predict that Wrex survives, because he’s awesome. Not sure who’d get blown up, but I don’t care much as long as they [del]find a flesh and blood woman whose tits look at awesome as Miranda’s do in that white hexagonal-pattern top who also has an ass that you can bounce a quarter off of[/del] maintain the integrity of the narrative.

The renegade dialogue was fun, wasn’t it? But … as lame as it sounds, sometimes I needed to do the paragon-thing for, well, my peace of mind, even when playing the jerk (convincing Wrex was one of them).

And yes, yes, this is the kind of integrity that cannot be … diminished. I’m glad you see it that way.

And since you might have given this some thought already, who would you consider good candidates for what role?

Is it?

I’m not watching it unless they use FemShep. Preferably with Liara as the love interest.

I was hoping for this. My only problem is my Shepard is a girl. It will be weird seeing a dude being the main character.

My guess is the story will follow the first game. If it succeeds, we’ll get the trilogy.

Well, he fucked up I am Legend royally but then everyone who has done that movie has screwed it up (apparently movie companies cannot abide the awesome twist ending of the book). Maybe the movie companies made him do it…I dunno.

I, too, would vastly prefer female Shephard and don’t understand why in this day and age we can’t do it and get a good audience. Are people still so sexist that they don’t want to watch a powerful female? Because I don’t think male Shep is half as awesome as femShep, if only because it’s not really been done to this extent before: a female character who is just as tough and badass as the guy and doesn’t get by on her boobs (I’m looking at you, Lara Croft).

But gets off soapbox this may be the first video game movie that could actually be really awesome, as long as they don’t stray too far from the source material. I have no idea why they strayed so far for Prince of Persia for example - in trying to get a large audience, you confuse them and irritate the loyal fans.

I feel like I must give a disclaimer. This whole post is completely IMO, of course.

In a similar vein, I’d be kind of curious to see if they’d go with Yvonne Strahovski and Martin Sheen to play the two characters that they voice (and that are relatively based on them physically, especially the former).

… And another vote for Female Shepherd, but I’d think it would have to be a new actress that we’ve never heard of. Because otherwise we’d end up with Milla Jovovich, whether we wanted to or not.

Yeah, because no one has ever made a movie or TV show starring an awesome action woman before.

Yep…almost none. Clearly audiences don’t like powerful female charcaters…except for this lot:

(To name a few)

I suppose that it depends. To start with, I have an irrational and all-consuming hatred of Seth Green and would enjoy seeing him mauled to death by an angry chimpanzee. I’m sure that he’ll play Joker though. I’d like to see a male Shepherd instead of a female one, just because all my playthroughs were with a dude and, honestly, I prefer the actor’s voice rather than the acress’.

I’m afraid that I don’t know anybody more suitable than Angelina Jolee (sp?) for Miranda, but which that there was another option. Yvonne Strahovski’s voice is awesome, but her body doesn’t fit the character. Wrex probably wouldn’t matter much as he’d be heavily made up (or CGI) so the guy who did his voice would be cool, although I’d really like to have Keith David fill in if the voice actor wasn’t available.

But most of the parts I’m really not clear on. Garus would be very important but I don’t know who could play the part well. I’m tempted to say Ben Foster because he can play just about any role and come out totally different… but I dunno.

I’m hoping the film will look and feel like the game, sans the dialogue options. Keith David, Lance Henriksen, and Seth Green should definitely reprise their voice roles for the live-action film.

Seeing as how all the aliens will need to be CG with ADR (unless they can get some *really *good make-up effects) I’m hoping they’ll stick with the original voice actors for them, they do a great job in the game.

A big problem will be the ‘canon Shep’; which decisions were taken. I imagine it’ll be a paragon-fest. The books avoided this by focusing on other characters and areas other than Shep, only mentioning his deeds in generic passing. Nobody wants to feel like their Shep isn’t the ‘proper’ one.

Also hope it isn’t all crunched into one film; a hell of a lot would need to cut out entirely. Also hope ME3 comes out first, for reasons stated above…

I dunno, David will always be Goliath to me. It’d be nifty if he could be Wrex (and if Wrex had wings and turned to stone during the day and…)

Really? I don’t see why not - she’s remarkably hot, and she does a good job of portraying a relatively hardass character on “Chuck”. I’d be very disappointed if they didn’t cast her as Miranda.
