ETA: Well, the cops locked down Highland Prep, which is probably a hundred yards from our building, so out management has the building doors locked, but we’re not like under guard or anything. I could leave - if I wasn’t going to be sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic for six hours.
I thought the shooter was gone? The news is reporting the make and model of his car.

“On the loose” in the sense of “not shot or caught”. They’re not 100% on whether that Rodriguez guy was actually the shooter.
Update: they just found Rodriguez’ car at his mother’s house, which directly opposite the shooting location from my office. :eek:

Seriously. I get mistaken for an Arab all the time, so bad press for Muslims is bad press for me - bad enough that I was basically hiding in my fraternity house for two days after 9/11.
With a name like Jason? No, I think it’s just some guy with serious anger issues.
But kudoes to the police for catching him alive. That makes two for two.
The toll is now down to one dead and five wounded. With luck, it’ll turn out Rodriguez’s pistol wasn’t loaded, and there are zero dead and two or three people who ran out of his way and sprained their ankles.
I don’t think we’ll get that lucky, but we can dream.

I think most of these things wouldn’t happen if they didn’t get so much coverage on television. Everyone knows these days that you will get attention and your story will be told if you shoot a bunch of people.
Well, most times the shooter either kills himself or is shot by police. It’s very rare that they capture him alive. Plus, it’s news. People near the area need to know to stay put, and drivers can learn why the highway is suddenly shut down.
And the rest of us can post our observations on message boards.
