True. Tear down houses cost $1 million or more. If you buy a house that you can afford, then you’re looking at a multi-hour commute. Similarly, rental units are very hard to find.
Ten years ago we were looking at houses in downtown SJ for around 400K. They have gone considerably up since then, but if you bought some time ago, you are golden. And in the East DT area, you can still get a decent house for under a Mill. And they are not all “contractors specials” either, but most do need some TLC.
