Massively Blistered Feet

Yesterday I was lucky enough to get to go to an air show, complete with the Thunderbirds. How cool is that?

Due to the tight security around the area and also to showing up in the middle of the show, we were forced to park approximately 27 miles from the airport. Okay, maybe it was only about 2.5 miles.

In any case, I had on what most people would call “sensible shoes.” Black Josef Seibel sandals, which I paid a fortune for, knowing that I could wear them and not get hurty feet.

Had I known about the 27 mile hike, I would have worn sneakers anyway. But I didn’t.

So now I have these really WEIRD blisters on my feet. They’re UNDER callouses and feel sort of…deep…if that makes any sense. The one on the ball of my right foot is 3 inches wide…which is a good chunk of the entire width of my foot. I measured it so I could tell you all about it. It’s huge and deep and SORE. The one on the ball of my left foot is slightly smaller, but I have one on my heel there as well, so it makes up for it.

I can’t believe how painful they are. I feel like a complete idiot whining about blisters, which I usually consider to be a minor problem worthy only of a bandaid and a shrug. However, this is painful enough that it’s difficult for me to walk.

Since they’re all underneath callouses, I don’t know what to do. Would bandaging them help relieve the pain so I can walk on them better? Should I see someone about draining the three gallons of fluid out of them. Should I just go ahead and have my check into the hospital now? How long will it take for my body to reabsorb the extra fluid so I can walk again?

Ouch.

Cover the blisters with mole skin. You can find it in the footcare aisle of your local drug store. It always seems to make the blister seem less painful.

Were you at Hanscom for the air show? They expected 500,000 people and only had 20,000 parking spots on the base. Too bad you didn’t know that when selecting your footwear. :frowning:

I was at Hanscom! I parked in a lot BARELY off of 128/95. Were you there? How cool was that Warthog? I love big, zippy planes that make a lot of noise.

Now, I’m off to the drug store to look for mole skin. Too bad you can’t push me around in a wheelchair.

Hmm…maybe someone delivers.

You’re not a wimp.

Blisters-especially on one’s feet are like papercuts: they’re small minor injuries that hurt like all hell broke loose.

I wasn’t there, but I had a reserved spot on the base! (My sister works there.)

If I’d had marvlous hindsight, I would have begged for that space. But who knew?

Oh well, the walk was good for me except for the feet thing. Plus, the moleskin worked wonders! I’m back on the road (I’ve taken up jogging) and in no pain. I never would have guessed simply covering them up would make such a difference.

Thanks for the advice!
