Can’t find any threads with “Matchstick” in them, so here goes.
At the beginning when Roy and Frank visit a couple pretending to be FTC agents and make them fill out a form, what was the purpose? They had already collected the money from the wife and it didn’t look like what they were setting up anything to squeeze more out of them. The only thing I could figure is that it would delay the couple’s call to the cops if not forstall it entirely, since so far as they knew, the cops were already aware of the situation.
I think the form they had them sign was some sort of money order or release. They got a couple hundred off her for the water purifier scam, but then later were splitting up several thousand. I think the idea was, get them pissed off over the first scam, and they’ll be so angry they’ll sign anything you put in front of them to get even.
They had them sign that document to 'allow them to trace the check through their bank account". That allowed them access to their bank account. They then cleared out the rest of their money. The next scene, when they’re back at the office, splitting the money, Frank says something like, “It’s not very much. I should have known by those cheap curtains”, or something to that effect.
There is another Matchstick Men with spoilers thread here. I had trouble finding it too because, get this - the search engine doesn’t recognize any three letter words!!! Also I hear it only works on alternate Thursdays during months with a ‘b’ in them.
Oh, and only if the brakeman stoked it with fresh coal at least an hour before you try using it.
No three letter words? Sheesh. Is this really the 21st century?
